New Hanover County is seeking an Executive Aide to join the County Manager's Office. Working under the general direction of the County Manager, the Executive Aide will perform a wide variety of highly responsible, complex, and diverse activities while providing administrative, analytical, and technical support to the Manager. The ideal candidate will be a professional with outstanding planning, communications and customer service skills. The ability to be flexible and be comfortable handling shifting priorities and projects is vital in this role.
Specific duties include:
Managing the agenda process for Board of Commissioners meetings to include notifying staff of agenda deadlines; receiving and reviewing information submitted for accuracy and ensuring they are properly uploaded into an electronic system; assisting with the creation of items as necessary; distributing agenda items to leadership and coordinating a review process; making updates to items; preparing final agenda item packets for distribution to senior leaders and officials; publishing agenda timely for availability to the general public.- Providing executive support by relieving the county manager of routine administrative tasks to include screening calls, mail, and email and initiating appropriate action/response; composing, typing, editing or proofreading correspondence; keeping the county manager informed of significant matters, messages, documentation, or other information; and conducting special projects as directed.
- Performing special projects at the request of the county manager that may require critical thinking, complex analyses, presenting data, and making recommendations.
- Responding to inquiries by finding answers to questions and/or referring queries to the appropriate department or employee; follows up to ensure matters have been appropriately resolved.
- Coordinating calendar activities to include scheduling appointments, meetings, conferences, hearings, or other activities; updating calendar on a regular basis and notifying parties involved about changes; and distributing event calendars as required.
- Arranging travel/conference registrations and reservations to include preparation of itineraries, expense reports, and other related documents.
- Planning, coordinating, and participating in various events including seminars, meetings, and luncheons; may be required to take minutes and distribute them to participants.
- Assisting the county manager with various special projects, as directed.
- Performing other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Performing work during emergency/disaster situations.

Master’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field and demonstrated experience to work independently performing complex technical, analytical, and administrative support at a management level.
Knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation, ability to prepare documents and compose letters, etc.; office practices and procedures; mathematics/statistics; and the department's and county's policies, procedures and practices. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; organize and prioritize work and projects; access, input, and retrieves information from a computer; and communicate using speaking, hearing and visual skills.
- Valid NC Driver License
