Role Summary

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for developing solutions to treasury and finance processes at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role makes recommendations to improve the day-to-day oversight of the company’s debt and lease portfolios, supports ongoing liquidity and balance sheet metric forecasting, and provides analytical support of a wide variety of critical finance, fleet, and treasury-related subject and projects. This role requires an inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to build strong cross-divisional internal relationships.

The Senior Financial Analyst is a subject matter expert in Treasury analytics and business support for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions for long-term Treasury and Finance strategy, including supporting the execution of the company’s fleet plan and capital allocation and hedging policies and provides recommendations to address a wide variety of critical Finance, Fleet, and Treasury-related subjects and projects.

Key Duties

Financial Analyst II

  • Applies knowledge in financial analysis to provide modeling and business support with respect to ROIC, fleet planning, capital structure, capital spending, cash forecasting, fuel hedging, financing, credit/financial metrics, return of capital to shareholders, and other Treasury matters.
  • Use an analytical mindset and critical thinking skills to identify and analyze strategic financial opportunities, proactively lead discussions, and make recommendations to support department initiative and projects.
  • Takes initiative to develop solutions to treasury and finance processes and problems.
  • Applies finance professional concepts and methodologies to make recommendations related to internal and external financing/fleet transactions and audit requests.
  • Maintains financial reporting and audit documentation to ensure compliance with all internal audit and SOX requirements.
  • In partnership with manager, supports long-term fleet plan including administration of aircraft purchase contracts and aircraft sale, lease, sublease agreements and projects. Includes maintenance of internal reporting on fleet plan / activities.
  • Supports administration of the company’s standby letter of credit facility.
  • Conducts analysis and develops recommendations in support of financing and fleet acquisition/disposition activities, including cash flow forecast modeling, economic analysis and negotiation of new loan/lease agreements, evaluating alternative sources of funding, and supporting aircraft transactions.
  • Develops and monitors Treasury-related budgets, tracking performance and effectively communicating key drivers to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepares monthly reports for accounting and financial reporting to support internal and external closing process.
  • Drives process improvement and process documentation to ensure maintenance in accordance with internal audit and SOX requirements.
  • Influences cross-functionally and partner with Network Planning, Legal, Accounting/Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, FP&A, and M&E on cross divisional projects, including executive and board level projects and presentations.
  • Cultivates relationships with external customers/partners including aircraft manufacturers, worldwide banking and leasing partners, capital providers, and rating agencies.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and duties as assigned.

Senior Financial Analyst

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Financial Analyst II

Required

  • 2 years of experience working with analytics and/or business intelligence in Treasury, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or accounting, or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and investing fundamentals.
  • This role requires an inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to build strong cross-divisional internal relationships.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, particularly related to financial modeling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance priorities.
  • Ability to understand and breakdown complex ideas to support decision making.
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently with limited supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • 4 years of experience working with analytics and/or business intelligence in Treasury, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or accounting, or related area, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and investing fundamentals.
  • An inquisitive self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and ability to work and communicate with all levels of the company, including senior executives.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, particularly related to financial modeling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance priorities.
  • Ability to understand and breakdown complex ideas to support decision making.
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently with limited supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
