Frontend GIS Developer

CTrees is a nonprofit organization that tracks carbon in every tree and forest on the planet. Led by an international team of scientists and engineers, CTREES delivers science-driven data on forest carbon to governments, companies, and organizations seeking to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation and degradation and restore forests at all scales. https://ctrees.org/

CTrees is seeking a Frontend Developer to assist in building out our open-source, interactive map data products. Our platform is used for mapping, monitoring, and visualizing our planet’s forest carbon stock and changes from land use activities. We are looking to create interactive map products where users can explore data and analyze activity in their region. This role requires you to be able to build geospatial and analytical visualizations for a diverse range of customers. As part of the CTrees team, you will be working closely with a diverse group of international carbon and climate scientists, machine learning experts, and third-party designers and developers.

We are just beginning the development of many of our products, this is an opportunity to lead and shape our core products. This role will appeal to candidates that are looking to use their frontend development skills to make a significant contribution to global efforts to address climate change.

The Role

• Lead development of software for the management, manipulation, and display of satellite imagery and geospatial analysis on interactive web portals
• Work closely with design teams and product owners to define, design, and implement features
• Practice disciplined software engineering such as automated testing, code reviews, and writing beautiful, pragmatic code
• Ensure components meet Accessibility, Internationalization, and Localization requirements
• End-to-end deployment and delivery of frontend code and ensuring AWS cloud compatibility
• Work in an agile environment to test, review and deliver

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in frontend development
• Excellent Javascript, HTML, and CSS
• Knowledge of geospatial and mapping frameworks such as: Leaflet, OpenLayers, Turf.js, React, Cesium, etc., for JavaScript, Flask, GeoDjango, LeafMap, JavaScript API for building web maps with their tools, such as Google Maps JavaScript API, Mapbox-GL-JS and ArcGIS API for JavaScript
• Understanding of REST APIs
• Degree in Computer Science, Geography, Remote Sensing, or other highly quantitative disciplines
• Experience in geospatial data, satellite imagery, or computer vision
• Ability to collaborate and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work independently in a startup environment

Role

• Location: Hybrid with option for remote working in Pasadena, CA
• Hours: Full-time
• Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision
• Salary range: $100,000 - $150,000 annual base salary, depending on education and experience
