is looking for a Gas Engineering Supervisor to join our Team, located in Houston, TX.

You will have the ability to supervise, plan and direct distribution system design activities. Apply engineering principles to design and install distribution system in a safe, efficient and practical manner. Ensure compliance with federal, state and CenterPoint Energy’s codes and standards. Participate as an effective member of Engineering’s Management team and supports achieving CenterPoint Energy’s business objectives.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Supervise, coordinate and perform design activities including engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies and coordination of gas distribution facilities installations. Assists in evaluation of system operations and troubleshoots problems.
  • Supervise, coordinate and prepare economic justifications (concise, factual and conclusive statements of the purpose, merits and necessity) for each project proposed to assist management with evaluation of capital investment. This includes budget items and completion reports for construction projects.
  • Coordinate complex and multi-disciplined engineering projects from design to implementation.
  • Serve as an expert resource for other engineers.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of structured training programs and conducts work group performance audits to ensure the accuracy of company records and compliance with company policies, procedures and standards and conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges.
  • Monitor capital expenditures to ensure recommended projects do not exceed established budgets. Develop reports to periodically track expenditures and to forecast year-end total capital budgets.
  • Administer policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for employees by promoting safety awareness and developing safe work habits.
  • Observe, coach and improve employee performance by establishing and communicating clear expectations and standards of performance. Monitor and evaluate individual and team performance using timely and effective performance discussions. Build employee capacity to manage their jobs through appropriate delegation of authority. Recruit, hire and develop competent staff to create an effective team environment.

Your background includes:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Requires a minimum of five years' experience in utility design or related project construction design and a Professional Engineer License or has demonstrated progress towards obtaining licensure.

  • Able to demonstrate effective project management and time management to meet project deadlines and remain within budget.

  • Able to use initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks.
  • Able to apply extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and DOT CFR 192 regulations.
  • Able to make sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and Company policies.
  • Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the company.
  • Able to possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record as determined by the Company.
