Job Duties & Responsibilities:
The Gearbox Assembler would be responsible for maintaining the gearbox area and performing the following functions:
Assembles machines, equipment, and their sub-assemblies following blueprints and other written and verbal specifications by performing the following duties. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of hand and power tools. An assembler is also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as supervision deems necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Reads and interprets blueprints and assembly drawings to determine specific assembly requirements.
- Plans assembly procedures, following specifications.
- Assemble and test-run products
- Package and crate parts
- Conduct quality conformance audits and inspections on gearboxes which range in size from 50 to 12,000 lbs.
- Prepare gearboxes for assembly in reclaimers
- Assemble rotary hydraulic unions, bearing assemblies, and other items
- Rebuild gearboxes, and prepare returned items for restock
- Prepare, generate, and log rebuild reports and equipment testing data
- Monitor and initiate requisitions for gearbox parts and other rebuilding supplies
- Advise Production Supervisor of any departmental problems
- Aligns components and bolts, screws, or rivets them together.
- Installs moving parts, such as shafts, levers, or bearings, and works them to test free movement
- Aligns and meshes gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears
- Move parts in and move finished product of assembly area.
- Work in a safe and efficient manner and obey all rules and regulations
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
- Work overtime as required
- Aligns components and bolts, screws, or rivets them together.
- Reads and interprets documents furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to read tape measure.
- Able to interpret tolerances.
- Identify and measure material.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Confer with engineers, programmers, production employees, and management to resolve issues, while maintaining continuous improvement, improved tool life, reduction of costs, improved set up time, and implementation of quality improvements.
- Ensuring proper tooling for each machine.
- Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines.
- Setting up and operating machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data in accordance with setup time parameters.
- Comply with all work instructions, following and maintaining ISO/QS Standards and Riley Gear & Machining procedures, and quality certification requirements.
- Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Working with maintenance as needed on machines and equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
- Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
- Responsible for supporting the Riley Gear Business Process by:
- Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
- Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
- Use Various Roll/pin measurement, and visual checks for part inspection
- Maintain clean and organized department and work area
- Communicate with coworkers and supervisor as needed
- Take parts to inspection when necessary
- Use inspection methods to determine size changes
- Analyze blueprints & travelers
- Complete all necessary paperwork as required in a timely & accurate manner
- Machine maintenance (oil levels)
- Machine maintenance logs
- Basic gear inspection equipment knowledge and skills
- Basic materials knowledge
- Basic math & geometry skills
- Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
- Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvements.
- Resolving problems.
- Passing along vital information in the logbook for subsequent shifts.
- Performing other job-related duties as required.
· Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds
Skills & Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of standard Pump and Gearbox Shop practices is required.
- Basic comprehension of blueprints and drawings is required.
- Basic knowledge of measuring instruments is required.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools is required.
- Obey all safety rules and regulations.
- Advanced level of mechanical aptitude is required.
- Ability to fulfill attendance and time requirements.
- Previous forklift and/or overhead crane experience is preferred.
- Positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude.
- Great active listening skills. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Must be dependable and operate with a high-level of integrity.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Working environment is in an industrial shop; climate controlled.. Frequent exposure to moving equipment, machines and shop tools, and other safety-sensitive hazards / risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.
