General Laborer

Gerken Paving is currently seeking applicants for a full time, seasonal position as a General Laborer who possesses a Commercial Drivers License with the Hazardous Materials endorsement. Duties include:

• Utilizing shovel, rake, lute measuring wheel and other small hand tools
• Digging, spreading and leveling construction materials as directed.
• Lifting, carrying and cleaning tools and equipment.
• Performing a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on heavy highway, roadway, excavation and infrastructure projects.
• Operating screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications, making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finishes cross section of asphalt material via screed controls.
• Guides dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
• Operates other equipment on the project.
• Follows all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.

Skills and Abilities

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an asphalt paving operation (road construction in high traffic areas) helpful.
• Valid CDL with hazardous materials endorsement required.
• Safe and acceptable driving record.
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and nights when necessary.
• Ability to work in a team as well as individually.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions such as cold, rain, heat and humidity.
• Union membership required.
