Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a dynamic and effective Global Advocacy Coordinator. This job reports to the Senior Director, Global Advocacy in the Government Relations Department within the Policy, Campaigns, and Advocacy Division of PPFA and will support the Global Advocacy team in the planning and execution of PPFA’s and Planned Parenthood Global’s work to protect access to international reproductive health and foreign assistance funding through advocacy to country and multilateral bodies, including U.S. foreign policy.
Purpose:
Provide support to the Global Advocacy team in the planning and execution of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s and Planned Parenthood Global’s work to protect access to international reproductive health and foreign assistance funding through advocacy of country and multilateral bodies, including U.S. foreign policy. This position manages key systems to ensure successful workflow while at the same time tracking essential legislative, policy, and global opposition debates impacting our issues and leading key projects, including around youth engagement on global advocacy priorities. The Global Advocacy Coordinator jumps in to support urgent priorities while keeping track of ongoing, long term work. The Global Advocacy Coordinator interacts diplomatically and enthusiastically with a variety of stakeholders, including colleagues across the organization, coalition partners, supporters, affiliates, and global partners.
Delivery:
- Provides general support towards the effective management of the global advocacy team, including scheduling large meetings and conference calls, processing expenses, and organizing meeting logistics.
- Helps develop and manage systems to support team workflow, track progress against goals, support donor reporting, and assists in the development of presentations about the work.
- Tracks legislation, monitors policy debates on international family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), analyzes opposition activities online and at the United Nations, and regularly conducts online research and prepares summaries in support of the development of advocacy materials.
- Drafts communications and supports outreach to PPFA affiliates, supporters, and international partners.
- Responsible for making routine, relatively low-cost expenditures (such as travel, office supplies, or event costs) with prior approval from supervisor or department head.
Engagement:
- Under the leadership of other global advocacy team members and in partnership with the youth organizing team, coordinates the engagement of youth leaders on global advocacy priorities, including overall project management, engaging with coalition partners who prioritize youth engagement and related advocacy, and ongoing coordination with fellows and alumni.
- Plans events in conjunction with affiliates and partner organizations.
- Coordinates with international staff and partners to inform and support advocacy efforts.
- Attends external events and meetings, takes notes, and develops first drafts of priority documents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2 years of directly-related, progressively responsible administrative support experience with experience in project management preferred.
- Strong computer skills including word processing, database, spreadsheet and use of the internet.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent writing skills, critical thinking, and proactive problem solving skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Intermediate understanding of reproductive health issues, legislative process, U.S. global health programs and international family planning field, and ability to apply that knowledge in professional settings.
- Strong interpersonal, organization, communication, and customer service skills and the ability to build trust and credibility with internal and external partners.
- Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.
Location: Based in Washington, DC.
Travel: 0-20%.
The starting salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 .
