Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Graphic Designer creates, produces, and optimizes graphics for web, email, print, and promotional items for the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk brand and other Santa Cruz Seaside Company properties. Coordinates the production, mailing, and distribution of printed materials as outlined by Advertising and Creative Director. Proofreads for accuracy and consistency. Responsible for project file backup and archiving.


Unique Job Requirements
Must have experience as a graphic designer and/or production artist or in an in-house creative department or creative agency. Must have knowledge of design, layout, color and typography principles and possess proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud design applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro). Knowledgeable of the latest content trends for websites, social media, and email campaigns. Must have experience with print production. Must have experience with photo color correction and retouching. Knowledge of printing and bidding process and USPS mailing requirements a plus. Some knowledge of HTML, CSS, digital asset management and project management software experience a plus. Copywriting experience is a plus. Requires the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines working with interruptions. Must have strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent English language comprehension and proofreading skills. May occasionally assist Marketing Department with weekend office coverage or special events. Must be a team player and maintain a positive attitude under pressure. Motivation to learn new skills as design trends and digital platforms evolve.


Job Tasks
  • Creates, produces, retouches and optimizes graphics for web, print, and promotional items, including website image content, emails, print ads, brochures, forms, T-shirts, and other creative and marketing deliverables.
  • Follow company brand and identity standards and maintain brand assets.
  • Work from general guidelines using industry standards with direction from Art Director and creative judgment.
  • Maintain production schedules and advise Project Manager concerning priorities and production schedules.
  • Prepare press-ready files and communicate timelines with vendors to ensure on-time delivery and/or mailing of printed collateral.
  • Create clean, organized and properly labeled files.
  • Color-correct images as needed.
  • Schedule printed material production and distribution/mailing for internal/external use.
  • Meet with project manager or clients to clarify scope and requirements of creative projects as needed.
  • Proofread and edit as needed.
  • Perform press checks when needed.
  • Maintain purchase order and other files.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as hours logged, filling out detailed purchase orders for vendors, submitting invoices to Accounting, and maintaining organized files.
  • Support marketing and sales areas with special projects and events.
  • May work with outside contractors for print production and freelance art.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Training and Experience
Must have at least 3 years of experience as a production artist or graphic designer as part of an in-house creative team or creative agency, designing and producing graphics for print and web, with strong fundamental 2D design skill. Print buying experience is a plus. Proficient with Apple OS, Adobe Creative Cloud design applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro), Microsoft Office and file archive management. Some knowledge of HTML, CSS, Extensis Portfolio, and Teamwork, or other online project management software experience a plus. Copywriting experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud design applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro) and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of the print production process.
  • Knowledge of Business English including composition, grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to produce graphics and art for web, print, and promotional items.
  • Ability to use Extensis Portfolio and FileMaker applications.
  • Ability to organize work and to keep extensive and detailed computerized files and records.
  • Ability to plan and forecast production schedules.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately proofread and edit.
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent communication and working relationships with coworkers and outside vendors.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, responding positively to creative critique and direction.
  • Ability to perform extremely detail-oriented and accurate work as well as basic math computation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize and complete tasks with interruptions and distractions.
  • Ability to perform press checks when needed.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

  • Able to work on a computer at a desk for long periods of time.

Licenses / Insurance
Possess and maintain a valid California U.S. Driver's License at the time of hire. Required to maintain automobile liability coverage with a minimum of $15,000.00 bodily injury one person/$30,000.00 bodily injury total accident/$5,000.00 property damage coverage per California’s minimum liability insurance requirements. (Required if the employee will at anytime use own vehicle to perform company business functions)
