JOB SUMMARY:

This position facilitates group training meetings for youth and families in Racine County through both the Strengthening Families Program and the Brighter Futures Initiative.

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an internationally recognized parenting and family strengthening program for high-risk and general population families. This program provides community-based groups to Racine County families. The focus is to improve parenting skills and family relationships and reduce delinquency and alcohol & drug abuse in children. Child maltreatment also decreases as parents strengthen bonds with their children and learn more effective parenting skills.

The Brighter Futures Initiative program provides a county-wide substance abuse prevention program targeted to elementary school- and middle school-age children and their parents. The primary focus is to provide services to registered youth in schools, churches, community centers, etc. A major emphasis of the program is helping youth identify their interests, identify short and long-term goals, develop short and long-range plans for implementing their goals, and assist youth in achieving their goals.

LOCATION & HOURS: Office is based in Racine, WI. Hybrid model of time spent at the office and out in the community meeting at schools, churches, or other community centers. Hours are varied, about 15 hours per week.

SALARY: $19.00 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Recruit families and coordinate services with other community providers, including substance abuse prevention services.
• Utilize the Strengthening Families Program and Brighter Future Initiative curriculum, which is an evidence-based parenting skill, children's social skills, and a family life skills training program specifically designed for high-risk families.
• Demonstrate competency in the areas of diversity, e.g., culture, race/ethnicity, religion, language, social customs, disabilities, economics, gender, and age.
• Have a strong knowledge of community resources and refer families to needed services.
• Conduct face-to-face contact with families, per program standards, to promote and teach healthy parent-child communication.
• Provide flexible hours and diverse and accessible locations and make meeting families where they are a priority. e.g., community/neighborhood centers, churches, schools, family resource centers, hospitals, public meeting rooms, etc.
• After training is complete, staff are added to on-call duties to monitor after-hours calls.

• Must have reliable transportation on a daily basis, a valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or other related fields is required.
