Job description

We are looking for a creative and proficient in all aspects of food preparation, Head Chef. You will be “the chief” and maintain complete control of the kitchen and supervise daily back of house restaurant operations such as, but not limited to, maintaining a fully stocked kitchen inventory, managing the kitchen staff, complying with safety and cleanliness standards and ensuring all plates are property cooked and served on time.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
  • Modify menus or create new ones that meet quality standards
  • Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
  • Establish portion sizes
  • Price menu items in collaboration with the Restaurant Manager
  • Maintain weekly and monthly cost reports
  • Supervise kitchen staff’s activities
  • Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
  • Recruit, manage and train kitchen staff
  • Rectify arising problems or complaints in a timely manner
  • Give prepared plates the “final touch” before the dishes reaches the guests
  • Ensure food quality remains consistently high
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Keep time and payroll records
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Communicate well with BOH, FOH and owners
  • Ensure the kitchen staff remains up to date with all required government certifications

Requirements and skills

  • Proven working experience as a Head Chef
  • Excellent record of kitchen management
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and proficiency in multi-tasking
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Must be reliable and punctual
  • Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
  • BS degree in Culinary science from accredited Culinary Institute or related certificate
  • Previous experience preparing Indian or Fusion concept cuisines, preferred but not required
