The purpose of the Office of Health Promotion (OHP) is to contribute to a culture of wellbeing at UMBC by providing evidence-informed health promotion, resources, skills and support that are responsive to the needs of our community. We contribute to fostering a campus community that supports and empowers individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices at UMBC and beyond.



Position Overview:

As a member of the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Health Promotion, the person filling this position will contribute to the mission by working with students to meet the Divisional priorities of fostering public health and safety and helping to develop life skills and interaction amongst UMBC students. This is accomplished through health education, health communications and prevention programming efforts and outreach events conducted through the Office of Health Promotion. Students who participate in these events and programs learn essential skills about their health and wellbeing as it relates to academic and life-long success. Educational areas of interest include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, stress management, mental health promotion and healthy relationships.

Telework:

A hybrid telework schedule may be available for Maryland residents.



Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Plan, promote, coordinate, implement and evaluate health education programs, health communications campaigns and activities.
  • Coordination of campus-wide health education outreach and programming efforts as well as individual health education consultations.
  • Assist in collecting, analyzing, and translating program data for evaluations.
  • Represent Office of Health Promotion on divisional and community committees.
  • Support the supervision of the Peer Health Education Internship and OHP student staff.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion or related field is required.
  • One year of experience in Health Education or a related setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion or related field is preferred.
  • Experience with teaching or working in higher education is preferred.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
