VHB is seeking a full-time Health & Safety Project Lead to support the development and implementation of VHB’s Health & Safety (H&S) program, both internally and at project sites/client facilities.
Responsibilities
- Promotes compliance with applicable H&S federal, state, and local regulations and permits; company policies and procedures; and work practices for clients and the corporate program.
- Assists with the development and implementation of programs, initiatives, policies, and best practices that promote employee H&S compliance.
- In conjunction with the Learning and Development Team, develops and delivers training programs that educate VHB employees on H&S requirements and risks (e.g., construction safety, OSHA Safety Training).
- Attends safety meetings with various levels across the organization (e.g., Project Managers, ,Managing Directors). Serves on the Safety Committee.
- Promotes incident reporting across the organization.
- Documents and investigates H&S incidents/accidents/injuries, provides records or evidence as required during lawsuits or legal proceedings, and develops and implements corrective measures to reduce risk (e.g., retraining, procedural changes).
- Provides H&S compliance support at client facilities.
- Maintains a visible presence at offices and project sites.
- Conducts compliance assessments (e.g., walking/working surfaces, confined space entry reviews, clockout/tagout).
- Evaluates, audits, and enforces safe work areas.
- Assists Project Managers in monitoring known H&S hazards (e.g., noise, heat/cold, work-related trauma).
- Assists with the development and updating of various safety policies, procedures, reports, statistics, and other H&S written documentation (e.g., lessons learned).
- Purchases and distributes personal protection equipment and other related supplies (e.g., footwear). Encourages employees to use the proper safety equipment.
- May develop and communicate facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
- Stays abreast of current and anticipated changes in H&S laws and regulations.
- Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
- 5+ years of experience in an H&S role, preferably in the Architecture Engineering Construction industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety or equivalent field
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety preferred
- Working knowledge and understanding of relevant H&S federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Working knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (e.g., writing policies and procedures for H&S) and presentational skills delivering training (both in-person and online).
- Exceptional customer service abilities with an emphasis on timely response to employee concerns and needs.
- Strong organizational, time management, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $75,000-109,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
