Health & Safety Specialist

Synthomer Jefferson Hills, has an immediate opening for a Health & Safety Specialist for its Jefferson site located in West Elizabeth, PA location. The Health & Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our employees, contractors, and visitors enjoy high levels of safety, health while maintaining regulatory / corporate compliance and RCMS conformance.

Responsibilities:

• Actively promote & drive the corporate safety vision of a Zero Incident Culture through fostering a Zero Incident Mindset, including but not limited to, employee safety observations, hazard recognition, and other employee engagement activities
• Develop, implement and manage policies, procedures, programs and databases consistent with Federal, State and Company requirements
• Execute safety-related training curriculum development and presentations associated with company policies, OSHA requirements, new employee safety orientations, routine safety training and crew huddles
• Manage safety supply vendor and facilitate obtaining appropriate materials for the selection and maintenance of safety and personal protective equipment
• Facilitate safety inspections/audits of various safety programs
• Facilitate and maintain job hazard analyses
• Lead and/or participate in incident investigations as required.
• Ownership Life Critical 6 program leadership for site operations including consultation for remediation
• Support the site Management of Change process, including safety risk assessment evaluations of new or modified equipment
• Manage employee health policies and initiatives, including but not limited to injury management, accident investigations and corrective action plans to minimize the effect of injuries on the employee and the company incident rate metrics
• Support Industrial Hygiene (IH) planning and monitoring for site operations
• Provide leadership to safety team meetings and/or auxiliary projects.
• Ownership of site contractor management program including but not limited to facilitating contractor participation with site safety requirements, as well as conduct additional contractor safety orientations for shutdowns and outside contract work, as necessary.
• Respond to corporate SHE requests as necessary
• Ensure maintenance of fire system
• Ensure conformance to required Coast Guard and other security standards as they apply to the site.
• Support shutdown and project work by providing SHE oversight.
• Ensure internal SHE program auditing is performed and confirms compliance and adherence to site standards/procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Process Safety or other related technical discipline
• 5+ years of experience in related industrial / manufacturing HSE role or process engineering is preferred.
• OSHA 10-Hr and 30-Hr General Industry Training Certification preferred
• CSP / CIH certification preferred
• Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills
• Strong technical / analytical skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities and the ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
• Strong initiative, focus and follow-through skills
• Strong computer skills in standard office software programs
• Effective organization and planning skills
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to adapt to different cultural environments
