The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) works to strengthen laboratory systems serving the public’s health in the United States and globally. APHL represents state and local governmental health laboratories in the United States. Its members, known as “public health laboratories,” monitor, detect and respond to health threats. In 2021 APHL was recognized as a top workplace by the Washington Post.
This is a remote friendly position, that does require the employee to reside with in the DMV area, as the employee must have flexiblity to come into the office in Silver Spring, MD approximately 8 or more times a year
Responsibilities:
Along with the Sr. Director, People & Culture serves as the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion champion, implementing programs focused on promoting culture that actively supports inclusion and equity for all employees.
Identify organizational needs and create and drive processes and workflows that are compliant, efficient and reflect our mission and values.
Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives
Use various methods to recruit and network with potential candidates including social media platforms, networking events, and job fairs
Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, like time to hire and employee turnover rates.
Organize quarterly and annual employee performance reviews
Set a clear, compelling vision for how to retain exceptional talent.
Advise and influence senior leadership on culture and positivity thru mentoring/coaching.
Build and reinforce our culture to encourage employees to build their careers.
Maintain employee files and records.
Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace.
Support employees with efficient problem-solving when any human resources issues arise
Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities
Influence management to achieve great people outcomes through clear understanding of the organization’s strategic initiative and goals.
Oversee employee labor and HR federal laws and regulations to assure compliance.
Conduct exit interviews and recommend corrective action if necessary.
Travel to APHL’s HQ Office in Silver Spring, MD up to 15% of time
Attendance at Mandatory APHL Weeks two times per year
Ability to work a schedule during normal work hours Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as human resources, employment relations or psychology. However extensive HR experience in place of a degree will be considered as well
- Superb computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office and related HR software(iCIMS & ADP is a plus)
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- Deep understanding of Labor Law and employment equity regulations.
- Adhere to all EEO/AAP tracking requirements
- Understanding of HR functions such as benefits administration and new hire problem-solving
- Manage talent by supporting and coaching leaders in proactively assessing, identifying, acquiring and developing the human capital required to execute business strategy
- Efficient HR administration and people management skills.
- Natural problem-solving ability to improve situations for employees
- Experience with HRMS/HRIS systems
- Technology skills with experience using various HR software program
- 3+ years of experience working in the human resources field.
