The Human Resources Generalist position is responsible for the administration and support of day-to-day human resources operations encompassing duties impacting the full employment lifecycle of the employee population. This is a hands-on role performing a variety of human resources duties. This position helps organize, coordinate and carry out all human resources projects and processes for the department. This position provides professional level support in the functional areas of human resources as well as assists with duties associated with Recruitment and the Payroll department. This position performs administrative and support duties impacting non-union and union employee populations (~350) based in the US and Canada for two companies. In conjunction with fellow Human Resources team members, this position is a vital source of human resources information and works in a highly visible role. The role acts as a bridge between employees and the Human Resources team as the first person employees may contact and/or interact with related to a Human Resources matter. This role assists with basic requests/tasks and serves as a liaison in taking requests (beyond the capabilities of the role) to appropriate HR management team members. This role’s mindset and actions are strategic and tactical where tactical duties are regularly performed with an understanding of Human Resources’ strategic impact to the business. The position performs duties associated with (including but not limited to): recruitment (talent acquisition), onboarding, employee file maintenance, training, administrative tasks, benefits administration and reporting and employee engagement/retention. This position supports and ensures the maintenance of perception and reality where Human Resources is ‘beyond reproach’ related to accountability, confidentiality, fairness and consistency.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

· Administers all benefits programs (non-union and union)

· Serves as main point-of-contact (and/or as backup) in performing onboarding duties for new hires including but not limited to: facilitating NEO (New Employee Orientation) which includes information; training on various topics for new hires; and facilitating/completing I-9 Form process with all new hires.

· Performs recruitment (talent acquisition) duties

· Serves as main point-of-contact and partners with Vice President of Human Resources and participates in applicable job/career fairs.

· Maintains awareness of laws and regulations directly impacting the company and specifically benefits and union activities and shares knowledge/information with Human Resources team

· Serves as main point-of-contact (and/or backup) in coordinating and managing Leaves of Absences (LOAs)

· Performs a variety of human resources administrative and support duties including but not limited to: inputting, uploading and maintaining accurate data in HRIS on a daily basis, including all employee file information (hiring, separation of employment, payroll, benefits, status changes, etc); creating, maintaining and delivering HR reporting; gathering and presenting data requested for applicable audits; completing tasks associated with Verifications of Employments received by employer; works with Payroll department team members related to applicable reporting and/or similar requests

· Serves as a back-up and/or performs administrative duties associated with training (learning and development)

· Creates a positive experience for candidates and stakeholders through professional and productive verbal and written communication and ensures accuracy and timeliness of information

· Contributes to and/or leads planning, facilitation and participation in location employee engagement activities

· Assists employees and management with interpretation and education of policies and procedures andredirects/escalates employees/management to senior Human Resources Management team members for more detailed/confidential interpretations of policies and procedures

· Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

· Participates in and assists on Human Resources projects

· Performs other related duties as assigned

· In partnership with the Vice President of Human Resources, assists with and/or leads activities related to Union-Specific Duties including but not limited to: Receives and processes copies of jurisdictional licenses for field employees in the License Database and maintains the databases in partnership with the Legal department; In conjunction with VP of Field Service and all US field employees, handles movement of field staff, time away from work relief, travel (living allowance and hotels); Generates tracking/report outlining Living Allowance for various track meets and enters specific data in expense reporting system. Examples: DelMar (Spring and Fall of each calendar year) and Saratoga (Summer of each calendar year); Completes and/or assists with processing employment status changes (new hires, separations of employment, transfers, relocations) and changes impacting payroll; Handles recruitment activities; and Coordinates hotel and travel arrangements (including negotiating hotel corporate rates) for field employees traveling to big track meets (including Preakness) and as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field

· Minimum of five (5) years of overall Human Resources experience with a minimum three (3) years of experience in performing ‘HR Generalist’ type functions/duties including working with employees who are based ‘in the field’

· Generalist background with broad knowledge of benefits, compensation, employee engagement/retention, employee relations, recruitment and training & development

· Maintains personal and professional goals of continuing career path within Human Resources function with initiative to learn and grow within role and as Human Resources team member/professional

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software (One Drive, Google Docs) along with HRIS databases (Applicant Tracking – iCIMS/ADP and ADP – Payroll/HRIS)

· Demonstrated ability in ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations

· Ability to maintain confidential information and knowledge of confidential matters

· Confident and capable of respectfully engaging in positive, driven and motivating dialogue with HR Team members, hiring managers, employees and stakeholders. Successful track record in building and maintaining relationships (confidence and credibility) at all levels within the company

· Ability to work at ease with cross-functional teams spanning multiple US/Canada locations

· Effective, consistent and impeccable communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, organizational, people management, presentation, project management, teamwork, time management and training skills

· Ability to change course easily – knows when to be patient and when to push while working in the “gray”

· Must be personable and approachable; Demonstrate professionalism and active listening skills at all times

· Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment including stressful situations

· Individual must be open to learn about and understand ‘niche’ industry

· Demonstrates and maintains flexibility and adapts to changes within industry and company

· Preferred Experience and/or Education: Applicable SHRM and/or HRCI certifications (PHR/SHRM-CP); Experience in union environments; Knowledgeable in technology industry; Knowledge of horse racing and gambling

· Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a competitive base salary, bonus opportunity and benefits

· This position does not have supervisory responsibilities/duties

· This position is empowered to take initiative with applicable duties/projects

· May require travel up to 30% including travel outside of the local area
