Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS) Office of Licensing (OL) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Incident Management (IM) Specialist. This position is responsible for ensuring all serious incidents, by level of severity related to consumer safety, are reported in compliance to regulatory standard. The position will also triage reports of incidents to ensure all protective measures are in place for consumer safety. Specific duties include reviewing all reported incidents on a daily basis and following up on those of potential concern, including phone contact with the provider and/or individual; desk review of records and reports; and onsite visits when indicated; analyzing information and situations to determine what action is needed; ensuring clear communication between the IM unit, specialists, investigators, and other offices such as the Community Integration Team, CRCs and Office of Human Rights; conducting risk management and quality improvement activities under the direction of the IM Manager to ensure the accuracy of data entered by providers and ensure the OL is meeting established outcomes within the assigned timeframes. Position may require occasional day or overnight travel and will be assigned to Region 4: Central Virginia area, which includes but not limited to the following areas; Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in clinical, administrative, management, and quality assurance. Knowledge of the principles and practices of root cause analysis, risk management and continuous quality improvement. Advanced analytical skills necessary to work with aggregated information. Ability to multi-task, implement directives, and convene and conduct meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the Department and internal operations, particularly licensing regulations and the principles of incident management. Master’s Degree in a healthcare profession, behavioral profession, and/or Registered Nurse and experience in developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.

Effective July 5, 2022, all Commonwealth of VA State Employees are required to work onsite. However, this position is currently eligible for one (1) telework day a week, unless otherwise stated. Additional days may be considered. Both options are at the discretion of the Supervisor.
