Roles and Responsibilities

Job Summary/Overview

  • The Electrical Technician is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, inspecting, and commissioning of medium and high voltage electrical systems. They will also perform calibration of complex relay and power metering equipment.
  • This is a full-time position (1st-shift, Monday thru Friday, works 6:00am to 3:00pm M-F. OT as required by project or site needs.). The position is a part of a 3-man team under Infra Electrical department. They will also cross train and be part of the EEW/QC/Commissioning Team

Specific Job Duties

  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment.
  • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panels and transformers.
  • Acceptance and maintenance testing of Low Voltage MCCs/Buckets, and MV Starters.
  • Low, and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
  • Power transformer testing.
  • Cable testing – Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hi-pot.
  • Work with electrical engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve relay switching issues.
  • Test and perform other electrical maintenance activity within the plant environment as directed.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment and repair, and to ensure compliance with NEC and job site specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, roofs, inside cleanrooms, high noise areas or hot environments to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Use CMMS to track repairs, parts inventory, and preventive maintenance.
  • Establish and write policies, procedures and guidelines for plant operations and maintenance
  • Able to work well in team environment, mentoring/training others, and effectively communicate throughout the organization (engineers, technicians, management, customers).
  • Troubleshooting: Responds to equipment and system failures and utilizes structured problem solving and troubleshooting techniques to make necessary adjustments to return normal operational status.

Skill and Qualifications:

Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required

  • High School Diploma or GED is required, a certificate from a technical school or utility training program a plus.
  • Prefer an Associates' degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in electrical power, or similar training from the U.S. military.
  • Enrolled in TDLR Apprentice program to track hours worked in the field to obtain Journeyman Electricians License when eligible.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools:

  • Strong knowledge of the NEC 70E code as it applies to industrial installations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution system and single line diagrams
  • Knowledge of standard practices of the Electrical trade
  • Prefer OSHA 30 training.
  • Experience and training in the use of meters to read Voltage, Current (Amps)
