Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (IEED) leads the University in its goal to uncover and unleash the vast innovation potential of faculty, students, staff, alumni and stakeholders. IEED works with leadership across campus to set strategy, provide central services, establish and foster partnerships, and garner resources to support the University’s innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development agenda. UNC-Chapel Hill is generating ground-breaking ideas through research to become a leading fundamental and translational research university. IEED uses a federated model to strengthen the innovation ecosystem that consists of an extensive network of University-facilitated programs. This network of students, faculty and staff are working together to tackle the most challenging problems in North Carolina and the world.
Position Summary
The Innovate Carolina Program Manager will coordinate and lead a pan-university marketing and communication campaign for Innovate Carolina initiatives. This includes organizing and executing events and activities and promoting accomplishments by: producing stories and content for various I&E units across campus for distribution through multiple channels, organizing public events that showcase UNC’s projects, and working closely with campus communicators and UNC’s central communications functions to integrate innovation examples and messages in their work. This person will:
- Manage, develop content, and oversee the innovate.unc.edu website. Engage in continual improvement of the website by working with members of the Innovate Carolina Network to cross-pollinate related content and tools.
- Provide support of affiliated websites within the Office of IEED, including oced.unc.edu, and the hub websites.
- Maintain and update content for I&E social media platforms including Facebook.com/innovateunc, Twitter.com/innovateunc, and the Innovate@Carolina newsletter.
- Write and produce press releases, presentations, speeches, proposals, and reports.
- Elevate the university’s profile nationally. Monitor the national media landscape for innovation and entrepreneurship programs in higher education. This landscape study should outline all national media outlets that rank, profile, or review innovation and entrepreneurship programs at US institutions of higher education.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Excels at working collaboratively, establishing and maintaining a variety of work relationships with key internal and external individuals and organizations.
- Strong project management skills, ability to handle several projects at once, and flexibility to respond to high priority projects.
- Demonstrates proficiency in design, production and marketing across multiple channels.
- Demonstrates Web writing experience for an educational institution, corporation or other similar entity.
- Proficient in WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other related digital tools.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of five years relevant work experience is strongly preferred.
