Instructor/Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science in Liberal & Applied Studies
(BSLAS) Program
SUMMARY
Southeastern Oklahoma State University's department of English, Humanities, and Languages invites applications for a full-time Instructor position. Given that Southeastern is a Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution, experience working with Native American students and/or faculty is preferred.
Summary: The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in BSLAS program, utilizing campus-based and online formats, with a teaching load of six credit hours per semester. Working with the BSLAS-Coordinating Committee, the successful candidate will coordinate all activities related to the BSLAS, advise Liberal & Applied Studies majors, compile assessment data in the form of an annual report, and have ongoing interaction with the Academic Advising & Outreach Center, the Online and Distance Advising Center, and coordinate advisement with the outreach centers (Ardmore, Idabel, McAlester, Grayson County).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching:
· The teaching load includes 6 hours in the BSLAS Program (fall and spring), specifically teaching the Capstone course for Liberal & Applied Studies majors that is offered exclusively in a 7-week, online accelerated format.
· Summer teaching will be at additional pay
· Quality Matters certification, or the willingness to obtain Quality Matters certification
· Create and/or maintain course syllabi in accordance with departmental and university guidelines
· Maintain Canvas platform for all courses
Service:
· Participate in professional, program, departmental, school and university committees
· Meet with students and colleagues using technology when necessary
Administrative:
· Carry a significant advising load (historically 70 to 100 students per semester). Assist BSLAS advisees in the registration process (involving instruction in navigating Colleague), provide detailed explanation of the LAS major, evaluate transcripts, develop and maintain degree plan and regularly update progress toward meeting major & graduation requirements, provide graduation information and deadlines
· Summer Coordinator responsibilities, including but not limited to advising, will be at additional pay
· Work with the Registrar’s Office to ensure graduation requirements have been met for all Liberal & Applied Studies majors and to update student records on Colleague
· Complete major clearance letters for all Liberal & Applied Studies majors
· Serve as a liaison between the Academic Advising & Outreach Center, Online and Distance Advising Center
· Work with the directors of academic sites in Ardmore, McAlester, Idabel, Grayson County to assist in advising BSLAS students (reviewing degree plans, completing, and submitting major clearance letters)
· Compile BSLAS data and write the annual report (Program Outcomes & Assessment Report) and Program Review (completed every five years)

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
Master’s degree in English, Composition, Humanities, or a closely related field.
College-Level Teaching Experience.
Evidence of commitment to student success.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Self-motivation and self-direction.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Willingness to take direction.
Ability to participate in group planning processes.
Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple assignments and initiatives.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Certification in Quality Matters, or the equivalent.
PREFERRED:
Teaching experience in interdisciplinary studies.
Experience or degree that reflects ability to work with high-risk students presenting with multiple issues.
Experience and knowledge of contemporary teaching methods used for online learning.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The start date is August 1, 2023. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until filled. Position and responsibilities may require multiple campus assignments as well as varied time and delivery methods.
