The Boston University Libraries are seeking an Interlibrary Loan Borrower to assist the research and curricular needs of Boston University by managing interlibrary loan borrowing services, placing requests made by faculty, students, and staff for library materials not owned by Boston University Libraries to other libraries using ILLiad and RAPID as well as bibliographic tools to search for, correct, and amend citations of requested material. This position will manage the borrowing process from placement of request, through loan and return of material or electronic receipt of document, and closure of request. The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and collaborative working relationships with coworkers, peers, supervisors, and student workers.


Responsibilities


  • Communicates with library patrons, library staff in other offices, and staff at other libraries in providing service or resolving questions and issues that arise.
  • Trains, supervises, and monitors student employees in borrowing processes.
  • Assists with lending requests for Boston University Libraries materials placed by other libraries as workflow and scheduling needs determine.
  • Assists department and administrators in the development and implementation of library initiatives, procedures, and policies by participation in departmental projects and tasks, staff meetings, committee work, and on task forces.
  • Manages all aspects of processing borrowing requests. Reviews requests, manages steps in processing, reviews fulfillment, and closes requests. Oversees providing borrowed materials to faculty students, and staff, providing loans of books or copies of journal articles, and returning borrowed items to originating libraries.
