The
Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard
is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist who will report to the Director of Institutional Communications. The Internal Communications Specialist will partner with the Broad Institute’s administrative and scientific groups to communicate news and events to the Institute’s internal audience of nearly 6,000 employees and affiliated scientists. Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Communications and working closely with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist and others, this position will be involved with many of the Communications Office’s key tactical operations.
The Internal Communications Specialist will be a key contributor to a fast-paced, multifunctional communications team, and will serve as a strategic thinker and a trusted collaborator and advisor to internal clients across Broad departments, programs, and platforms.
Duties include:

Coordinate production of weekly internal newsletter. Contribute to the newsletter by writing weekly administrative blurbs and pitching in on writing other content as needed.

Write, edit, and post content for the Broad Intranet and Careers site. Partner with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist and others (Web, Design, Social Media) to create new landing page content to ensure timeliness, relevance, and alignment with institutional priorities.

Serve as a primary contact for the Events team to ensure smooth deployment of all their communications needs, including planning, writing/ editing, and publicizing content for the Broad Retreat and other Broad-wide events.

Be a primary point-of-contact for questions and content suggestions submitted through online forms maintained by Communications, including through the Broad website and internal channels; route questions and other items to the appropriate stakeholders as needed.

Alongside the Senior Internal Communications Specialist, build and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including Broad’s DEI and HR team as well as Broad’s employee resource groups. This work includes help strategizing, creating, and publicizing content and events as needed.

Alongside the Senior Internal Communications Specialist, partner with administrative groups including HR, Facilities, Security, etc., on communications related to organizational structure, change management, and culture activation.

Have responsibility for onsite print and digital signage and Broad-wide Slack channels; manage community submissions and ensure all content is complete, timely, accurate, and clear.

Have responsibility for Broad Institute Calendar of Events; manage community submissions and ensure all content is complete, timely, accurate, and clear; train all content managers.

Deeply engage with the Broad community, seek opportunities to highlight important information and tell compelling stories, and regularly pitch story and project ideas.

Partner with relevant Communications team members to conceive of and develop community-focused content for Broad’s Instagram account and related channels.

Work with others to coordinate projects that improve or expand the Broad Institute’s internal communications mechanisms.

Effectively manage deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously; develop work plans, anticipate and obtain necessary approvals, estimate and track resource requirements, and communicate with collaborators across the institute.

Working with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist and Front End Web Developer, provide guidance to content managers (such as affinity groups and others) to ensure Intranet content is clear and up-to-date.

Required qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree or greater in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three years of related work experience preferred.

Excellent writing ability, engaging voice, and demonstrated command of grammar and mechanics.

Record of keen attention to detail.
-
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities on deadline, and work independently and proactively.
-
Ability to engage with scientific audiences, who represent the majority of the Broad community.
-
Ability to work onsite, in our Cambridge, MA, location, at least 3 days per week.
Preferred qualifications:
-
Experience in copy editing.
-
Working knowledge of Drupal or comparable content management system.

Basic knowledge of graphic design.
-
A science background is not required, but an interest in working in a research environment is helpful.
Finalists will be required to submit writing samples and take a writing and editing test.
