Job description
The Inventory Technician is responsible for the inventory of supplies and equipment in the Operating Room. This includes reviewing all supplies used in the previous day’s cases and requisitioning supplies delivered by sales representatives, consigned items, and stocked items needing to be replenished. The Inventory Technician will routinely check shelf stock as well for anything that might need to be reordered. Duties may also include tracking ordered supplies until delivery to ensure availability for OR cases, implant tracking, processing item recalls, coordinating equipment repairs, and working with Purchasing to add vendors and supplies to Materials Management systems. The Inventory Technician works in collaboration with Purchasing and Materials Management, Sterile Processing, and the Operating Room to ensure quality inventory control. The Inventory Technician is also responsible for controlling expenses of supplies and staying within budget. The Inventory Technician may also serve as backup for the OR charge entry associate as needed
Education
- High School education or equivalent
Experience
- Entry level (0-3) years’ experience in a healthcare setting
Preferred Experience
- Familiar with inventory management concepts
- Mid-level (4-7) years’ experience in a healthcare setting
- Financial background
Core Job Responsibilities
- Inventories orders and receives operating room supplies. Stickers all supplies to allow for documenting usage. Maintains appropriate and adequate quantities for OR case volume.
- Requisitioning of implants and supplies used on a daily basis for performed OR cases
- Tracks ordered supplies to make sure they arrive in time for scheduled cases.
- Perform all activities in order to comply with medical device implant tracking requirements. Returns vendor implant tracking records and records vendor information releases in Midas.
- Develops and maintains inventory records in a neat and organized manner, adding/editing/deleting items as needed.
- Tracks supply usage through departmental expense logs to assist in expense variance analysis.
- Works with Director of Perioperative Business Services, OR Financial Analyst, and Materials Management personnel to identify ways to reduce inventory and supply usage costs.
- Coordinates equipment repairs and/or loaner equipment with repair vendor.
- Works with Materials Management to add new supplies as stock items.
- Must interact cooperatively with peers, other staff members, and administrative staff.
- Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships with all internal and external customers of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
- Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
- Must communicate effectively.
- Must be in good condition and able to withstand the stress and demand of an active position.
- Must be able to withstand long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending and sitting.
- Manual dexterity, good hand/eye coordination and acceptable vision and hearing needed in daily work.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
