S&S Data Science team supports the Surplus & Specialty division by providing a broad range of data science services. We participate in an end-to-end Machine Learning development cycle from data extraction and preparation to choosing a modeling methodology, training and evaluating the model to deployment in production on AWS. We work with various external data sources that come in many formats – structured, unstructured text, JSON, XML, documents, and images – to enhance our underwriting and operations models.
We are avidly researching and implementing document digitization methodologies that involve using OCR and NLP. We are innovative and passionate about everything data science related. We are looking for a like-minded individual with strong programming background and desire to learn new skills.

Job Description:

What you will do:
A Jr Data Scientist will utilize their solid programming skills and assist with building, deploying, implementing and maintaining predictive models and rating algorithms.- An individual in this role will be familiar with different ways of capturing data including REST APIs and building pipelines for real-time consumption and analysis of external data sources.
- This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to other projects that involve OCR, NLP, Deep Learning, and MLOps.
What you will bring to C&F:
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Math or Statistics
- Experience with Python for programming (variables, logical and mathematical operators, writing and executing programs, conditionals, loops, functions, error handling, file manipulation, etc.)
- Prior experience with querying data stored in Relational Databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL)
- Prior experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge of Serverless framework is a plus
- Knowledge of JavaScript (Node.js)
- Experience with DevOps and MLOps
- Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques
- Experience with NoSQL Databases (DynamoDB, OpenSearch)
