Lab Operations Manager /Sr Manager (80% Part Time Job)
Job description
We are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to serve as the NBC US liaison to Scientific Research Operations, Health Safety and Environment (HSE), Facilities, External Innovation and Collaborations, Procurement, IT and other Novartis/NIBR support functions.
What you’ll be doing: Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide lab operations support to the team
- Ensures that all site specific and global operational requirements (i.e. SOPs, initiatives) from other NIBR support functions (such as Facilities, Procurement, IT, Finance, & NIBR Quality ) are effectively and timely implemented within the NBC US community.
- Responsible for HSE related activities at NBC (i.e. scheduling, joining tours, follow up, recording in HSE net).
- Implements Compliance rules and gives guidance as needed (e.g. Nagoya, NIBR Integrity Standards, Human Tissue)
- Responsible for handling business continuity and pandemic preparedness plans; main point of contact for Cambridge Novartis Emergency Management team.
- Leads any NBC Cambridge space and facility related projects in close collaboration with Real Estate, Facilities, Services (REFS) and NBC Teams
- Assists scientists with complex operational issues that require escalation (e.g. Purchasing/Procurement; HSE)
- Reviews monthly spend and alerts Global Head of Operation and Finance of any outliers, trends or incorrect bookings. Ensures US stays in monthly budget by managing requests and purchases.
- Contributes to global processes as needed, such as purchase of Capital management.
- Proactively alerts global Operations team of operational issues and makes suggestions to address those.
- Leads junior lab operations staff
- Interacts with NIBR Local Operations community
This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will require 0% travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international).
This position will be available at 80% equivalency to a full time role.

Minimum requirements
- B.S. Degree in a scientific discipline desired.
- Experience working in a research laboratory for 2-3 years.
- Demonstrated experience in management of laboratory biosafety.
- Previous experience working with health authorities to monitor and implement HS&E standards is very desirable.
- Project management experience is desirable.
- Budget / purchasing experience.
- Good knowledge of MS Office, with a particular focus on Excel. Facility with numbers and quantitative information

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $112,800 and $169,200/ year for the full time role (will be adjusted to the 80% range) ; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/22 through 12/31/22, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
