Job description
Basic Function
Conduct laboratory research towards the development of advanced materials for the oil and gas industry. Perform and assist in problem solving and investigative studies in the areas of chemistry, material science, or other industrial applied sciences/research associated with field operational problems in company facilities. Drive the adsorption of the core technologies to achieve net zero emission, including Carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS), such as direct air capture
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate R&D projects that impact business through communication with the Materials Technology Group and the Business stakeholders
- Carry out original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature
- Prioritize R&D projects and extensively utilizes research and/or project experiences, broad expertise of materials, processes, techniques, and products to improve on or develop new products, increase performance, or reduce costs, to maximize applications and meet business targets
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet timelines, deliverables, and objectives
- Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., separations, catalysis, non-metallic materials, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of Aramco or Saudi Aramco; publish in relevant journals and present in conferences
- Leverage understanding of process-structure-property relationships, molecular and/or material design, synthesis & modification to overcome technical challenges, achieve business goals, and advance scientific knowledge
- Effectively communicate research in a variety of professional venues including internal presentations, conference talks, technical, and non-technical reports
- Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment; follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
- Outcome driven and able to draw threads through complex environments in order to deliver change.
Education, Experience, Qualifications
- PhD Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, polymer science or a related discipline, preferably with 7+ years of industrial experience
- B.S./M.S. Degree in chemical or process engineering, material science, polymer science or a related discipline, preferably with 10+ years of industrial experience
- Demonstrated expertise at the intersection of materials development and process engineering in relevant fields such as carbon capture technologies or carbon sequestration, including direct air capture, membrane for adsorption and separation
- Extensive experience working or managing carbon capture, utilization, and storage projects, or 3D printing technologies, absorbent materials development
- Strong conceptual problem solving and quantitative reasoning skills
- Experience in characterizing materials using analytical techniques such as BET, GC/MS, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, UV-vis, XRD, SEM, Dynamic Column Breakthrough, Instron etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
- A proven track record of accomplishment, publications
