Overview:
The Laboratory Care Technician plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services to patients, families, and coworkers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection as well as provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing when appropriate. The LCT enters order and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems, schedules tests and procedures, and provides results in the LIS/HIS and over the phone.
Attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation of providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals. This position is 72-80 hours per two weeks, 8-hour Day/Evening shifts and weekends as needed.

About this department:
Fairview Range is looking for a Lab Care Technician (LCT) to join our hospital lab team in Hibbing, MN. The hospital lab at Fairview Range provides 24/7 support for Fairview Range Medical Center and the Fairview Mesaba Clinics. We are a CAP accredited, highly complex lab with a fully functional microbiology lab including molecular testing, and have on-site pathology support. We’re proud to offer a collaboration with the M Health Fairview laboratory systems, which allows our patients local access to a more extensive array of lab services.

- Lab consists of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, coagulation, transfusion medicine including antibody identification, microbiology, histology, cytology, and pathology.
- Part of multidisciplinary care team supporting each inpatient department.
- Lab staff include MLS/MT, HT, MLT, and LCT as well as tech specialists in various lab sections.

Responsibilities/Job Description:
- Performs phlebotomy at various sites to meet patient/family and other customer needs.
- Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures.
- Transports blood and body fluid under proper conditions and in a timely and safe manner.
- Accurately enters orders and collection information into LIS and subsystems.
- Provides results in LIS/HIS and reports over the phone.
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory desired.
- Completion of a Phlebotomy Training Course desired.
- Training as a phlebotomist, clinical assistant, MLA, MLT, MT or LPN or one year experience in health care related work.
