Position Summary:
Manages and oversees day-to-day operations of the Laboratory, in accordance with the established hospital and department policies and standards while working in conjunction with the Laboratory Administrative and Medical Directors. Plans, directs, and supervises administrative and technical functions. Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies. Plays a lead role in the strategic planning process and the implementation of initiatives focused on enhanced performance, workflow redesign, and developing a culture that emphasizes excellence in the quality and delivery of laboratory services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prefer five years of supervisory experience in the Laboratory. Preferred experience in coding laboratory procedures and knowledgeable in Medicare compliance regulations. Possess sufficient knowledge to investigate and evaluate new methodologies for presentation to management for approval. Possess management skills for accepting responsibility, making decisions, directing and supervising personnel within the section. Promote and maintain compatible working relationships among personnel within the section. Work closely with technical specialists, physicians, and staff. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts and under stress. Effective communication skills to include listening, writing, talking and reading. Ability to communicate via telephone, LIS, email and verbally. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work. Provides direct supervision of the staff. Knowledge of regulatory requirements including: safety, CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, North Carolina State and federal guidelines. Knowledgeable of Erickson's Developmental model relative to adolescents and all adult age groups in order to assess qualification and performance of staff and oversee orientation and training of staff who interact with patients in these age groups.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a medical science or qualifies under CLIA standard 493.1461.
1 year of equivalent experience considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
- Current BLS required
Preferred Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Master's degree in business or laboratory management or related healthcare field
- Medical Technologist
- Medical Laboratory Technologist
Capable of moderate amounts of walking, standing, sitting and lifting. Subject to viral and bacterial infections, exposed to blood borne pathogens. Occasional exposure to toxic substances. Good physical health, visual acuity and above average manual dexterity.
