POSITION SUMMARY

The BREATHE Program Lead Counselor position is for the KU After School Program BREATHE, an evidence-based therapeutic summer day camp for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The Lead Counselor will provide a fun and engaging experience for children and implement behavioral treatment protocols in accordance with the BREATHE manual. The lead counselor will oversee the duties of counselors and communicate regularly with program directors regarding group progress and concerns.


The Lead Program Counselor will attend at least four full-day trainings, May 22- 25, 2023. Counselors will work 15 hours per week (Monday - Wednesdays 11:30a.m – 3p.m. and Thursdays 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) which includes staff meetings and additional training. Counselors will get at least 72 hours of direct clinical experience plus 70 hours of training, supervision, and support activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Working with other staff members to plan and coordinate program events.

  • Leading and supporting attendees in age-appropriate sports and recreational activities.
  • Participate in training in behavioral interventions and implement these interventions with fidelity.
  • Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with program rules and prevent accidents.
  • Memorizing all emergency procedures and enforcing program rules.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Compliance with HIPAA guidelines and procedures
  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all standards of Universal Precautions.
  • Reliable Attendance and Punctuality.

Other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent with one year of college coursework in a social science or education field required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an offsite facility with a summer camp environment under the protocol of a supervising psychologist. Must be able to establish relationships with patients ages 6-10 years of age. Upbeat, engaging personality.
