The mission of the District Attorney's Office is to seek justice through:
Promoting accountability for criminal offenders.- Interpreting, enforcing and executing law.

- Working cooperatively with members of the justice system.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Independently performs legal support activities of a complex clerical nature, which require specialized training and skills; performs related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of an Legal Assistant Supervisor who assigns work, establishes goals, and reviews results obtained for compliance with department policies, procedures and goals.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.

Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following
- Prepare weekly court docket; update cases after court.
- Update court calendar upon receipt of release agreement or citation to appear; update warrant list, court calendar and case in statewide system.
- Determine and initiate appropriate administrative enforcement actions including collection through garnishment of wages, income tax refunds, assets and liens placed against property.
- Update case with new employment information; issue Income Withholding Orders withholding orders and National Medical Support Notices.
- Contact employers regarding laws an office policy concerning income withholding and health care coverage requirements. Issue letters to employers requesting information; follow-up with employer or parties.
- Explain Oregon Laws and Federal Regulations relating to child support enforcement to parties and employers.
- Compose correspondence and communication with attorneys, parties and other governmental agencies.
- Send packets for service locally, intrastate and interstate by Sheriff’s offices. Monitor for return of service.
- Process license suspensions, compliance agreements and reinstatements.
- Complete Failure to Comply Warrants
- Complete Probation Violation Warrants
- Complete Failure to Appear Warrants
- Complete motion, affidavit and order to reschedule court dates.
- Initiate bail intercepts, security intercepts and personal and real property liens.
- Communicate with other states via interstate computer network and directly through email, mail and telephone, regarding enforcement status.
- Respond to case inquiries and resolve complaints; explain status of case and reasons for actions; clarify amounts subject to withholding and garnishments; clarify amounts and calculations of arrearages.
- Complete ORIGIN tasks.
- Prepare miscellaneous motions, orders, and other legal documents.
- Update case information based on new information received.
- Assist reception during breaks and lunch maintain adequate staffing.
- Archive closed files.
- Process customer payments.
- Maintain case confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements for the Position
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, preferably supplemented by secretarial training; AND
- Three (3) years of experience in office and secretarial work, one (1) year of which must be equivalent to the level of Legal Secretary 1, in a public or private law office; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
- Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification.
- Must pass a criminal history background investigation, which includes fingerprinting; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification.
- This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. - Notary Certification (obtain and maintain qualification throughout employment).
- This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
- This position is represented by a union.
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department.
Considerable knowledge of: accepted modern office practices, procedures and techniques; English composition, spelling, and grammar; arithmetic; concepts of prioritizing/organizing work; modern office equipment and machinery and their intended use; a variety of computer systems and software.
Ability and skill to: independently, accurately and effectively perform assigned tasks and duties following established procedures and policies; meet and assist the public, staff, and other personnel of other businesses in a courteous, professional manner; comprehend and adhere to stated oral and written instructions, communications and procedures; apply principles, policies and procedures to specific work assignments; compose correspondence and legal documents in business form; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; use tact and judgment in dealing with the public concerning sensitive and confidential matters; type and word process accurately and at an acceptable rate of speed; access and use various computer systems and software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Bending; carrying up to 10 lbs.; grasping; handling; hear at a normal speech level; lifting up to 10 lbs.; reaching; repetitive motion of hands and wrists; sitting for extended periods of time; talking; walking throughout department.
