Summary: The Cook position is key in executing the preparation, cooking, and packaging food for the fast-casual line, the made-to-order items, and the Grab-and-go packaged items at Nubian Markets. This person collaborates with the Head Chef and directs food preparation on a daily basis. The Cook is key in maintaining food safety, food quality, and timely execution of the cafe and prepared foods menus.
We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail oriented, and a warm and clear communicator. This role coordinates on a daily basis with the cafe team, grocery teams, within the kitchen team, and with external purveyors and small businesses.
Responsibilities:
- Directs food preparation and collaborates with the head chef.
- Supports the Head Chef to oversee kitchen production.
- Assists with weekly and daily menu planning, inventory, and management of supplies.
- Executes menu on a daily basisEnsures all food is prepped, cooked and ready to serve.
Produces high quality food, including both design and taste.
- Food Safety and QualityAbide by ServSafe principles while coordinating and executing production
Keep kitchen area clean and tidy (wash dishes, sanitize kitchen surfaces, take out trash etc)
- Ordering: Support Head Chef in ordering and inventory process
- Receiving: Ensure quality of food delivered and accurately track in inventory systems
- Maintain a positive and friendly attitude with coworkers and customers
- Maintain clear communication with the kitchen team, cafe team, and others in the Nubian Markets operation
- Participate in quarterly all-team meetings
- Perform other related duties assigned by team members
Skills and Required Experience:
- ServSafe Manager certified (within 3 months after hire)
- A minimum of 2-4 years of culinary experience
- Strong and clear communication skills
- Ability to stay calm and grounded under pressure and last minute changes
Salary: $17/hour starting
