The Licensed Practical Nurse effectively maintains the Standards of Practice and Care, utilizes the nursing process using direct and indirect care and promotes collaboration with physicians and other disciplines while under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. In collaboration with RN assesses/reassess patient's condition based upon observation of patient and interview of patient and/or family, physician's diagnosis and data, diagnostic results, and relevant data from other healthcare providers. Delegates responsibility to appropriate personnel, as well as, accepts delegated responsibility from shift coordinator. Provides patients and family members with relevant health care education and instructions regarding treatments and procedures including pre/post hospital care as appropriate. Documents all aspects of patient care and maintains patient records, including but not limited to, Core Measure and National Patient Safety Goal compliance. Accountable for nursing practice to the Chief Nursing Officer or designee in the facility in which practice takes place.

Required: Current knowledge of the nursing role and scope of practice as defined by the State of Louisiana Nurse Practice Act and the Louisiana Board of Nursing. Current knowledge of American Nurse Association(ANA) Code of Ethics. Knowledge of current trends and demonstration of standards of care in assigned unit. Current knowledge of EKG interpretation. BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
