Maintenance Farm Hand Job Description

Tierra Verde Farms was founded in 2010 and provides the highest quality pasture-raised and grass-fed meats. Our goal is to provide our livestock with a life that allows them to express their natural instincts fully in a pasture environment. That means that pigs get to root, run and play; chickens get to peck, scratch and crow; turkeys’ goggle and strut; cows eat grass outside, NOT corn in confinement.

Farm Description

85+ acres of pasture and woodlots on the home farm while we lease another 130+ acres of pastures and hay fields in and around Deerfield Ohio. All land is managed in an intensive rotational management system with multiple species of livestock. All meat and eggs are sold through farmers markets (3 summer, 3 winter), on farm store, online sales, and restaurant sales.

Livestock Details:

• Pasture-raised pigs
• Pastured, Free-range broilers.
• Pasture-raised turkeys
• Grass-fed cattle
• Grass-fed sheep
• Free-range laying hens
• Livestock Guardian Dogs and donkeys
• Apiary

Maintenance Farm Hand Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain, Construct new, keep clear all fence lines
• Maintain Water troughs, floats values and water lines
• Land Clearing, Brush Clearing and Pasture renovations
• Mow and clear fence lines
• Tractor work and basic equipment maintenance
• Fence building, maintenance and functionality and general carpentry projects
• Livestock Housing Maintenance
• Equipment Maintenance
• Assist in livestock Operations as needed

Maintenance Farm Hand Job Skills and Qualifications:

• Hand Tool, Chain saw and fence tool operation
• Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
• Excellent communication skills and a good sense of humor
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• An appreciation of the roles speed and efficiency play in creating an economically viable farm – interest in learning and implementing “Lean manufacturing” techniques in a farm environment.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly is required.
• Ability to operate power tools and mechanical equipment safely.
• Willingness to work long hours in all weather conditions.
• Tractor experience a plus
• General carpentry and building skills a plus.
• Dedication, reliability, and a great work ethic

This is a full-time in season and part time in the winter hourly position. Compensation determined by experience. In addition, Maintenance Farm Hand will receive discounts on meat, eggs and other goodies from farm friends.
