Position Summary

Perform routine maintenance as assigned by supervisor and work orders turned in by building occupants. Will be responsible for all building components including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and all general maintenance duties. Based on staffing needs, specific trade experience may be required as a primary focus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Service Calls & Emergency Response – This position is oriented towards customer service. The candidate must be able to prioritize workloads for appropriate response times to service requests. The candidate must be able to recognize when additional resources are needed, and how to request additional support
  • Plumbing- must have the ability to perform basic plumbing repairs inside a complex. This includes reading and comprehending as-built drawings. Must be capable of locating isolation valves and performing the following: sweating of copper lines, replacement of faucets, stems and washers. Must be proficient in PVC repair as well as opening stopped waste lines.
  • HVAC – must have the ability to troubleshoot and repair the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems within a multi-building complex. Duties include an in depth understanding of the principles and operation of the heating and cooling systems. Must be able to make repairs (brazing), reclaim refrigerants, and recharge units as needed
  • Electrical – This position requires a basic understanding of the principles of electricity. Candidate must have the ability of identifying high and low voltage systems and know the proper safety procedures for each. Candidate should be capable of bending conduit, replacing ballasts, switches, and ability to troubleshoot using a meter.
  • Carpentry and Painting – The candidate must have the ability to perform small wall construction, patching, drywall repairs, and application of paint to blend the repair into existing finishes.

Working Conditions

  • Hours differ dependent upon position.
  • This position requires physical work including bending and standing for long periods of time, ladders, and heights, lifting up to 75 pounds, using heavy equipment and traveling to on- and off-campus locations.
  • This position may be exposed to labs, animal areas, loud noise, chemicals, and temperatures based on weather.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Must have a State of Missouri Class E or above driver’s license or the equivalent from another state prior to employment. A DMV check will be conducted as a pre-employment screening.
  • 24-hour availability for emergencies and willingness to work overtime.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical school training in maintenance/trade related courses strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience within a facilities environment or contractor
