Job description
The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Clinician-Investigator Hematologist for a faculty position with a focus in malignant hematology.
The successful candidate would join a thriving multidisciplinary Hematology practice and be able to leverage world class scientific collaborations, hemato-pathology and blood bank support, and robust infrastructure for investigator initiated and population based clinical trials.
We expect that this individual will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Medicine. The candidate will report to the Chief of Hematology & Medical Oncology and be expected to have administrative, clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities in the Mays Cancer Center, one of the nation's NCI-Designated Cancer Centers with over a 40-year tradition of excellence in the development of new cancer therapies, understanding cancer biology, and decreasing the burden of cancer in San Antonio and South Texas.
Subspecialty experience/expertise in the management of blood disorders is required, and an interest in clinical research is preferred. The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the clinical, research, and educational activities of our multidisciplinary practice. There is an opportunity to build a specialized practice in lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, or to adopt a broader focus across hematologic malignancies. Candidates should hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and be board certified/eligible in Hematology and eligible for licensure by the Texas Medical Board.
The Hematology program at the Mays Cancer Center has a long and distinguished history in early-phase drug development. As part of the MD Anderson network, this program receives operational and academic support from a world-leading cancer care system only three hours away. Servicing a vibrant, diverse, and rapidly growing city and region, the cancer center is expanding, and in 2024 will open a new hospital with stem cell transplant and cellular therapy capabilities.
