Job Summary:Responsible for providing effective administration and leadership to the Cardiopulmonary Department at a level requiring independent judgment. Ensures department complies with all hospital and regulatory agency standards. Oversees sleep lab and cardio rehab (cardiology, pulmonology, neurology). Oversees work-flow process required to accomplish the organization and department goals and objectives. Coordinates and implements departmental growth priorities. Responsible for establishing/revising the strategic plan aimed at program development and continuous performance improvement in quality, operations and financial performance. Coordinates continuing education needs of the staff, review/revise policies, procedures and safety programs as needed. Responsible for developing and maintaining a department operating/capital budget. Responsible for hiring and performance management of all department staff. Ensures programs and processes are implemented and working effectively. Responsible for meeting financial objective, a customer satisfaction goal. Ensures appropriate staffing levels, develops and maintains a cohesive team that supports excellence in patient care and a collaborative work environment. Delivers services according to the scope of service for Cardiopulmonary.
Essential Functions:
1. Department Quality
- Ensures sufficient qualified Respiratory Care Practitioners/Polysomnography staff are available to promptly and effectively perform the procedures requested of Cardiopulmonary Services.
- Communicates clearly and timely to appropriate administrative leaders new program ideas, issues of importance that need immediate attention; looks to leadership for guidance when necessary.
- Regularly examines alternative methods of providing required cardiopulmonary services in order to maximize operational efficiency and effectiveness of services.
- Maintains safety in the department and institution; ensures compliance with safety standards and disaster plans; develops safety rules for the department.
- Completes evaluations of personnel, relative to performance, conduct, attendance and adherence of departmental/hospital policies.
- Provides leadership, role modeling, mentoring and direction to staff with focus on employee retention and morale.
- Effectively coordinates the data collection relative to accreditation, licensing and NPSG requirements as directed by PI, Quality Resources and other appropriate groups.
- Plans and conducts monthly meetings with staff to keep them informed of new hospital initiatives, financial performance, NPSG.
- Self evaluates professional knowledge and actively seeks out educational opportunities for development.
- Maintains professional affiliations and contacts to keep abreast of current trends, changes and legislation in the field.
- Adheres to and practices the SJH Corporate Compliance Program and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Maintains appropriate documentation on staff as required.
- Maintains all required records for the department; ensures licenses are in compliance (FDA, NRC).
- Demonstrates good organizational skills regarding record keeping.
- Ensures that criteria based performance evaluations standards have been developed for each job description in the department.
- Revises performance standards as necessary.
Required: Graduate of and AMA Allied Health Educational Program in Respiratory Care. Or Bachelors degree or higher in a relevant field.
Minimum Work Experience:
Required: Minimum of five years management experience.
Functional Demands:
Working Conditions: Hospital/skilled nursing facility. Must be on-site at the SJH campus or other facilities to perform the duties of the role.
Physical Requirements: Intermittent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, patient positioning and transport. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Direct Reports: Cardiopulmonary therapists and technologists, sleep lab personnel and reception/clerical staff.
