Managing Director of Finance
Equitas Academy provides a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students to graduate from four year colleges and universities. We currently operate four Elementary Schools and two Middle Schools, with more schools opening in the near future.
Equitas Academy is searching for an experienced Managing Director of Finance to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and support its long-term financial health. The Managing Director of Finance will oversee all financial and accounting functions including planning, reporting, budgeting, and partnering with key stakeholders to promote strategic decision-making.
Opportunity
The Managing Director of Finance (MDF) will oversee all financial and accounting functions for Equitas Academy. This leader will develop a deep understanding of Equitas’ funding models and sources to be a thoughtful and collaborative steward of and set the vision for the administration of Equitas’ fiscal resources. They will monitor budget expenditures, prepare financial reports and statements, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality financial customer service, and serve as a knowledgeable resource and thought partner to senior leaders.
Reporting to the Chief of Operations (COO), the Managing Director of Finance will serve as a member of the Network Leadership Team. This leader will partner with the COO to achieve defined objectives through planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining financial services, systems, and policies in compliance with established guidelines. The MDF will be a skilled communicator, collaborator, community advocate, and hold a high standard of integrity
Essential Responsibilities - Financial Stewardship
- Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Operations, Chief Schools Officer, other senior leaders, and external partners to oversee the budget, cash flows, and overall finances
- Partner with the Chief of Operations to set and implement strategic financial goals that optimize the use of and ensure the equitable distribution of funds to achieve Equitas’ mission
- Manage the Accounts Clerk and support them to meet individual, team, and professional learning goals
- Oversee internal financial operations, including accounts payable, payroll, LCAP, and School Nutrition reporting and reconciliation
- Lead internal audits to ensure program operations are within budget and in accordance with appropriate fiscal practices
- Maintain a variety of manual and electronic fiscal information, files and records (e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable, contracts, ADA, etc.) to provide accurate documentation of transactions and minimize adverse audit findings
- Interpret and adhere to local, state, and federal laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures that govern the financial operations of Equitas
Essential Responsibilities - Budgeting & Analysis
- Analyze financial information (e.g., budgets, projects, cash flows, compensation, etc.) and create user-friendly financial models, dashboards, and reports to promote strategic decision-making
- Ensure funding allocations and disbursements are accurate and within budget by monitoring expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities
- Lead compilation and analysis of data from a wide variety of sources (e.g., staff, public agencies, school districts, etc.) to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components
Essential Responsibilities - Communication & Progress Monitoring
- Prepare and maintain financial information and reporting for senior network leaders, department heads, school leaders, the Board of Directors, and external partners (e.g., auditors, funding representatives, public agencies, etc.)
- Support staff and the general financial processes by reporting findings and facilitating collaborative meetings with colleagues to share information, identify challenges and opportunities, and support short- and long-term financial planning
- Provide training and professional development for key stakeholders to build capacity and support the delivery of exemplary financial services
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Committed to Equitas’ mission of providing a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students to graduate from four-year colleges and universities
- 7+ years of experience in financial management, budgeting, accounting, or other relevant financial services
- 3+ years of experience managing a direct report towards successful outcomes
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting or other relevant degree preferred
- Strong fundamental understanding of general accounting practices and financial management in K-12 settings, charter management organizations, and/or non-profit settings
- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize and present large bodies of information
- Demonstrated success in leading high-impact, complex projects
- Skilled at developing meaningful connections and relationships with team members outside their immediate scope of work
- Collaborative decision-making style, with a proven track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders to meet goals and drive results
- Effective at demonstrating empathy, listening for understanding, and facilitating uplifting and difficult conversations
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral)
- Experienced with and proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Must be able to pass a TB test and background check at the time of offer

Compensation
Compensation starts at $130K and is commensurate with experience.
