A DAY IN THE LIFE:

Responsible for performing set-ups and 3D printing of close tolerance biomedical hardware on various 3D printers. Interfaces with mechanical engineering on the design feasibility and 3D printing of complex parts. Design and print parts using SolidWorks, convert files for 3D printing formats, post machine or coordinate the post machining of various 3D printed parts as required. Ensures that parts are produced to specifications and within established completion time. Responsible for overall operations of all 3D printers and other Mechanical Lab duties.

• Independently prints 3D precision parts in prototype quantities in all materials, working from 3D solid models, drawings, diagrams, and sketches.
• Translates high-level requirements from various stakeholders into prototype design and creation.
• Designs simple fixtures and tools for proprietary product purposes.
• Assembles mock-ups to simulate new product appearance.
• Checks drawings versus the project input for correctness and conformance.
• Plans 3D printing assignments: lays-out, sets up, operates, and adjusts for various types of 3D printing equipment used in conducting work.
• Checks and inspects 3D printing operations against specified tolerances.
• Performs first article inspections using precisions measuring instruments to check work.
• Responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of 3D printing tools and equipment.
• Acts as 3D printing subject matter expert across the engineering team.
• Records and compiles documentation of project work and prepares reports as requested.
• Organizes and presents updates on project work.
• Stays current on 3D printing technology and advancements.
• Identifies and makes recommendations of process improvement initiatives to management.
• Confirms completion of required training plan before assuming job responsibilities.
• Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.
• Performs other assignments or projects as directed.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

1. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to independently print and fabricate parts from 3D models and conventional drawings with a high degree of creativity.
• Ability to set up and run all manner of 3D printers using a variety of materials with minimal supervision or direction.
• Advanced knowledge of Solidworks and PDM a plus.
• Ability to read and follow procedures and flow diagrams.
• Able to effectively share information and ideas within and outside of department in written or verbal form; able to put forth own ideas and gain understanding from others.
• Skilled at defining and translating high-level requirements into design and implementation.
• Proficient at supporting effective interactions between team members and among cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to schedule and coordinate project priorities and resources and to produce high quality work.
• Experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

2. Minimum Certifications/Educational Level:

• HS Diploma required; some post high school technical training preferred.

3. Minimum Experience:

• 4 years’ experience in an engineering support environment including:
• Creating designs using SolidWorks or comparable software.
• Fabricating/printing 3D intricate micro parts with good surface finish.
• Designing simple fixtures for fabricating or modifying machined or 3D printed parts.
