Job Summary:

CNPC USA is actively seeking creative, innovative, best-in-class experts to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, hands-on Mechanical Technician to join our R&D Team supporting development of our MWD Drilling Measurement Tools. Emphasis on assembly, testing, manufacturing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies and equipment. Will work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical and mechanical engineers, designers, and technicians.


The Mechanical Technician reports directly to the Measurements Lead and indirectly to the VP of Drilling and Measurements.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct all business activities in accordance with CNPC USA core values.
  • Commitment to occupational health, safety & working environment based on HSE rules and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with project peers and engineering team via e-mail, web meetings, and instant messaging, including weekly status reports.
  • Assist engineering team with assembly, test, operation, repair and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Assist in product testing by using test equipment, following test procedures, and documenting results.
  • Assist in inventory tracking, parts ordering, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Modify existing products to incorporate new technologies for functional and reliability improvements.
  • Build, test, repair, modify, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical assemblies including chassis level components such as potting, wiring harnesses, board level assembly, and maintenance.
  • Create Test Procedures and Engineering Test Reports consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Participate and provide input into process improvements for standardization of checklists and guidelines.
  • Function as an independent resource and technical support contact when appropriate.
  • Develop and adhere to lab safety protocols and good housekeeping practices.
  • Expected to provide timely updates throughout multiple project activities.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and audits of testing equipment.


Key Skills:


  • Demonstrated knowledge in assembling, testing, and maintenance of downhole tools.
  • Experience in inventory control management and knowledge of QA/QC processes and procedures.
  • Perform system teardowns as a key component of failure analysis and root cause investigation.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with basic testing equipment for electro-mechanical components including hydraulics, pneumatics, lifting equipment, hand tools, and voltmeters.
  • Experience and safe operation of pressurized hydraulic systems (high pressure pumps, valves, etc.)
  • Experience and safe operation of ovens for high temperature testing of components and systems.
  • Understanding of fasteners and torque tools is required, ability to solder at a prototype level preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills including ability to interact with coworkers and third parties.
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust to changing schedules and deadlines based on priorities.
  • Proven ability to deliver results on time, on target, with quality and sustainability.
  • Self-starter and team player with ability to work independently when needed.


Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma minimum required, or equivalent mechanical/electronics military experience.
  • Associate degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Manufacturing Technology preferred.
  • 5-10 years’ experience with downhole tool assembly, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical and mechanical drawings and procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience fabricating mechanical/electro-mechanical fixtures and jigs, assembly/disassembly of products, and performing various metrology and measurement activities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.


Work Environment:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.


This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Travel:

This position may require international and domestic travel. Travel between all CNPC USA locations and testing facilities is required.
