Job description

The Riverside County Transportation Department is currently recruiting for a Mechanics Helper to support garage operations in Riverside. The Mechanics Helper will perform routine service maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups for automobiles, light and medium trucks, and equipment. Additionally, the incumbent will provide support to the mechanics performing more complex repairs and pick up equipment parts from vendors as needed. The selected candidate will perform general housekeeping responsibilities such as sweeping, removing trash, and maintaining a clean working environment.

Competitive candidates will be familiar with basic automotive parts and possess a minimum of one year of automotive maintenance experience. Candidates with experience working in a heavy equipment repair environment, and those who possess an Automotive Services Excellent (ASE) certification(s) are highly desired.

Mechanic's Helper is distinguished from the Automotive Mechanic and Heavy Equipment Mechanic class series by the former requiring close supervision at times, and performing a lower level of work.
