Job description

Responsible for all filing related activities in the office. This will include chart maintenance, making of new charts, filing of all charts, scanning incoming documents into the electronic medical record and signed loose papers. He/she will also be responsible for all alphabetical and numerical filing of material in the office even though not directly chart related. He/she will help out in other areas which will involve chart retrieval both in and out of the office, doing courier duties primarily on campus.



Requirements

Education
High school graduate (GED) or equivalent. Some business education preferred whether from a technical school or in a business course in high school.

Experience
Office and computer experience preferred. Must be able to alphabetize and file according to established procedures being meticulous and paying close attention to detail. Familiarity with computer (e.g., data retrieval and data entry) preferred. Ability to type approximately 35 words per minute (for labels and addresses only) is required. Must have good communication skills and be able to work at a fast pace.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good communication skills and excellent service skills required in order to communicate with variety of customers (physicians, patients, insurance companies, hospital staff, other staff members) in a professional manner at all times.

Must be able to work independently. Must be able to follow instructions accurately and pay close attention to detail.

Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities, meeting deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

Must understand importance of patient confidentiality and adhere to confidentiality expectations at all times. Must be flexible in accepting daily work assignments.

Physical Demands
Will be required to sit and/or stand for long periods of time with high level of mental/visual concentration. Must have good manual dexterity to use telephone and computer for long periods of time. Must be able to hear and understand patient/insurance companies questions. Work requires bending and standing and the ability to lift boxes of charts and/or other materials weighing approximately 30 35 pounds. Ability to move throughout hospital departments to accomplish duties.
