Mental Health Technician (Part-Time)

Job Summary:

As a Mental Health Technician, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you'll evaluate patients physical and mental states every day, taking vital signs and noting levels of mental alertness and functioning. The Mental Health Technician will help patients with personal hygiene activities. In crisis situations, you will be involved in crisis resolution and management. You will frequently communicate with interdisciplinary team members and families to update them on your patient’s status. It is important that you be observant and detail-oriented with a calm demeanor and excellent social skills.

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and
  • < 1 year relevant industry

Department Summary:

Our mental health technicians care for children ages 4-12 and adolescents ages 13-17 with many different emotional or behavior problems, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. We are Middle Tennessee’s only provider of inpatient mental health services for children.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Carries out procedures under supervision of Registered Nurse including special precautions, Handle with Care skills and seclusion and restraint correctly and safely.
  • Documents all pertinent clinical information on a daily basis, including all unusual incidents.
  • Completes documentation for Seclusion/Restraint and Special Precautions accurately.
