Summary

The Quality Assurance Manager manages the plant’s quality assurance inspecting and auditing programs and quality assurance testing activities performed by the QA team. This position ensures the department’s functional requirements are met in a timely fashion and that employees are trained properly, possess required technical qualifications, assigned appropriate jobs, are properly compensated, and are protected from harm or injury in the workplace.

Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Manages the plant’s quality assurance inspecting and auditing programs, and quality assurance testing activities
  • Ensures that department employees receive the training that is necessary for the proper performance of their jobs and that they possess or acquire the necessary technical qualifications
  • Ensures that department employees are compensated and benefited properly in accordance with the plant’s wage/salary program and benefit program
  • Ensures that department employees are protected from harm or injury in the workplace and that the work areas are clean and safe, and environmentally sound
  • Participates in the establishment of quality specifications and standards for raw materials, works-in-progress, specialty items, vendor-supplied items, and finished products
  • Coordinates quality assurance activities with customer representative(s) to develop their confidence in, and their acceptance of, final products which meet The Greenbrier Companies quality standards
  • Ensures that production adheres to the American Association of Railroads (AAR) quality assurance policies and regulation
  • Assesses manpower requirements and creates plan to fill current and future needs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to translate quality objectives and project plans that drive results through the quality team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple goals, projects and information with accuracy
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency and experience adhering to the guidelines and regulations of the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SmartSheet
  • AAR Auditor Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent and
  • 5+ years experience in a quality assurance or engineering
  • 2+ years experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Working knowledge of quality systems, root cause analysis, and statistical process control

The majority of time in this position will be in a climate controlled office environment. Occasionally required to be in a plant or shop environment, which will require the use of PPE equipment including but not limited to hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs.
