Job Description:
AriensCo has an opportunity for a Model Maker at their Brillion, WI headquarters.
The Day To Day...
  • Safely sets up and operates machine tools and equipment for the modification or fabrication of parts. Fit and assemble parts to mechanisms and machines for product development and technology development purposes. Primarily works from prints and work instructions but needs to develop a moderate level of crafting without formal written instructions.
  • Consults with engineers regarding product information such as design, and types of material to be used to fabricate product.
  • Analyzes written specifications, drawing, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations.
  • Selects material and lays out design according to drawings, sketch dimensions or verbal instructions. Capable of critique of designs and products using experience and prudent judgment regarding assembly, adjustment and perceived durability in an objective manner.
  • Builds fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
  • Sets up and operates metal working and fabrication machine tools to produce parts to specifications. Verifies conformance of parts to specifications by measuring and fitting parts.
  • Occasionally recommends equipment and/or changes based on experience with experimental fabrication of parts and machine builds.
  • Disassembles equipment for engineering analysis and/or to scrap out tested machines.
  • Requires a low level of supervision and oversight to perform job duties.
  • May train others in the use of equipment and processes in the shop.
The Requirements...
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training. Apprenticeship, technical degree or specific training in the area of non-production fabrication and/or machining.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on larger projects successfully.
  • Technically skilled in most areas of the shop including metal forming, machining, welding, fabrication and blueprint reading.
  • Understanding intent of tolerance and design concepts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.
  • Strong mechanical abilities and aptitude.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
