Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.

Position Summary
The Academic Divisions provide a home for the SON faculty. This Division provides support for faculty assigned to the MSN/DNP Division. This includes assignments for teaching, research or service responsibilities; recruiting, hiring and orienting of faculty; preparation of all appointment, reappointment and promotion materials; career mentoring; and annual evaluations. The Associate Dean of the MSN/DNP Division serves as an advocate for individual faculty members as they teach, conduct research projects, and engage in clinical practice. The Division provides information to faculty on a daily basis in order to facilitate the mission of the School.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide executive administrative support to the Associate Dean for the MSN/DNP Division and to manage the daily activities of the Division Office and primarily the Master of Science degree program. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Administrative Assistant to the Associate Dean
Manager of faculty recruitment activities which include contacting and initial screening for candidates of fixed-term faculty positions available within the division, providing administrative support to search committees, coordinating orientation activities within the division, and assisting with faculty compliance required for the program and/or clinical agencies.
  • Facilitate the faculty contract renewal process, including the submission process for fixed term faculty contracts and course assignments.

The selected candidate will support the Associate Dean with reviewing incoming and drafting correspondences, coordinating division meetings, and maintaining Associate Dean’s calendar, travel arrangements, itineraries, and classroom needs. This position will support and manage the MSN program, student data forms, and event planning. The selected candidate must be able to compose faculty appointment letters in a timely manner and prepare data for division reports. The candidate must have Microsoft Office Suite experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The selected candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with individuals at all levels. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, self-motivated, ability to work independently, ability to multi-task, and excellent problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Undergraduate degree and previous experience in a higher education setting preferred. Basic knowledge of University & School policies, procedures, and curriculum related to the School of Nursing’s academic programs; working knowledge of FERPA and licensure requirements designated by NCBON; basic knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols specific to certifying agencies and accrediting bodies.
