The X-energy Government R&D Division develops advanced highly mobile nuclear reactor plants, including High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs), Microreactors, Lunar Fission Surface Power (FSP) reactors, and other terrestrial and space reactor concepts. X-energy’s Next-generation Integrated Transportable High-temperature (XENITH) microreactor is a modular, transportable, nuclear power station for remote locations and grid resiliency applications.

The Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer position will perform risk assessments in accordance with the appropriate industry standards and guidance, and author and review PRA-related documents that support modelling and applications for risk insights. They will also use risk-related software to create and maintain PRA models that represent the designs of X-energy projects and produce and review calculation documents that support and control the PRA model files.

• Responsibilities:*
• Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of well-defined problems in area of expertise.
• Contribute to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; deal with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.
• Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of moderate scope and complexity.
• Conduct engineering and related studies; projects and assignments are clearly defined with focus on development but must be able to complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with minimum impact on existing systems.
• Possess and apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; demonstrate proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions.
• Maintain accurate records and files.
• Support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
• Follow the guidance of ASME/ANS RA-S-1.4-2021 (or other applicable PRA-related industry standards) in creating and maintaining PRA models and supporting calculation documents.
• Follow the guidance of dozens of PRA-dependent applications (such as NEI 18-04) to acquire risk insights from the PRA and apply them to the design process to ensure risk results are within frequency and consequence limits as endorsed by nuclear regulators.
• Maintain frequent contact with the PRA team by use of emails, meetings, and one-on-one conversations.
• Communications should involve updates on progress of projects, maintain the correct order of priorities and ability to adapt to change, and raise concerns to the team when there are problems with projects and their timelines.
• Use PRA-related software (such as EPRI’s Phoenix Architect) in accordance with X-energy procedures, ensure the correct software version is being used in the manner it was verified, being aware of limitations and restrictions of software, and ensure software is referenced in documents that depend on its use.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering is preferred.
• 3-4 years of engineering experience. Experience must have been attained at a "Fully Meets" performance level.
• Understanding of basic principles of project management.
• Experience in the utility industry would be beneficial.
• Work experience or university courses covering reactor safety or probabilistic risk assessment of nuclear power plants is preferred.
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
• Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
