Job Overview

Operates all routine Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography equipment in a safe and proficient manner. Abides by and enforces all JCAHO, federal, state and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values. Under the direction of a Nuclear Medicine physician, performs high quality radionuclide imaging and non-imaging studies, including the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, the operation of instruments, the application of various imaging techniques and the positioning of patients to present the maximum amount of diagnostic information. Handles multiple room assignments and all different types of exams on a daily basis. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and assists with other activities as deemed necessary for the day-to-day operation of the department. Position may require cross training in additional modalities as directed by the Director of Radiation/Imaging Services. Shares responsibility for the maintenance of efficient scheduling, patient flow and quality assurance, as well as awareness of fiscal soundness within the division.

Performs full range of nuclear medicine dynamic and static imaging procedures on patients, including assisting patients in assuming the required anatomical body positions and adjusting the equipment to encompass the area to be studied. Sets up instruments (PET/CT, scintillation cameras, computer, etc.) for studies in accordance with prescribed procedures. Adjusts the controls on the equipment to produce the information of required diagnostic quality. Acquires data from patient studies on a computer for dynamic and static procedures. Processes images on data on computer following prescribed techniques. Performs and oversees more sophisticated technical procedures. Provides patient care with compassion. Takes call on evenings and weekends as listed on the call schedule, and returns to perform emergency patient exams when called.

Responsible for equipment/protocols set up in accordance within departmental, hospital and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) guidelines. Performs quality control procedures on all instruments, recording the results in the appropriate log books. Calibrates instruments regularly according to prescribed protocol. May recommend at times the procurement and necessity for maintenance of equipment.

Authenticates all physician orders prior to exam. Maintains accurate records of exams performed. Documents patient exam information in the Radiology Information System, indicating correct begin and end times for patient exams. Maintains records of receipt, use and disposal of radionuclide according to (Department of Environmental Quality) DEQ regulation. Checks operation of dose calibrator and radiation safety monitors against known standards. Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records and film folders.

Performs various tasks associated with the receipt, distribution, storage and disposal of radioactive material. Prepares solutions and materials when applicable and prepares serial dilutions as required. Calculates quantity of activity to be administered following prescribed procedures according to patient examination and or age and weight. Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients by catheter or needle injection, inhalation or oral administration

Facilitates procurement of necessary forms, consents and documentation to comply with hospital standards and obtains required signatures. Obtains required signatures, consents, and releases.

Pursues advancing medical education through personal study (i.e. journal article review, formal education, conferences, etc.). Performs other related duties as required by the Lead Technologist or Director of Imaging Services

Education/Experience Level

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Nuclear Medicine, ARRT (N), or a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT),
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Two years experience after graduation in a major hospital setting required
  

Pay Range
$30.97 - $51.02

Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility. These factors are considered without regard to an individual's status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
