General Statement of Job
Provides support to the Nurse Practitioner, Physician and Health Center Director. Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent and disabled patients in the Willcoxon Health Center by performing the following duties:
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares patients for examination.
Assists Health Center Nurse Practitioner and Doctor, as needed.
Conducts assessments of patients’ vital signs. Records health information and patients’ vital signs in the patients’ health records.
Administers first aid to MSSU students, staff, and faculty.
Administers specified medications, orally, by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. Record time and amount in patients’ charts. Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Assembles and uses equipment such as nebulizer equipment and oxygen supplies.
Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing. Performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
Maintains immunization records on all students.
Ensures documentation of education, informed consent, etc. on all records.
Maintains and updates patient records; prepares and submits necessary reports. Posts lab results.
Cleans and stocks exam rooms.
Answers patients’ calls. Ensures all patients are contacted after a clinic visit concerning test results.
Counsels students on health conditions and lifestyle issues.
Inventories and requisitions supplies.
Sterilizes equipment and supplies.
Assists Director in developing health care and emergency care plans for patients.
Assists receptionist with patient intake information, if needed, to facilitate coordinated care of patient.
Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
Associate degree in nursing (ADN) required, bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred, from a regionally accredited college or university.
Minimum of six months progressive experience is similar nursing practice. One-year related experience or training preferred. Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Licensed Registered Nursing in the State of Missouri is required.

- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Requires ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Requires the ability to hear and speak.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous biological materials. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Regular office hours as determined by university policy, with approval of supervisor.
