Ochsner LSU Health and the LSU Health Shreveport School of Allied Health Professions in Shreveport, Louisiana invites applications for a leadership position as the inaugural Chair of our PhD Program in Rehabilitation Sciences.

The position includes a full-time, 12-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of associate professor or professor, with rank, salary, and seed package considerations commensurate with experience and qualifications.

, which encompasses 20,000 square feet on the ground floor of the School of Allied Health Professions, fully equipped with contemporary rehabilitation tools and resources, and a motion analysis laboratory within the SAHP. Collaborative opportunities also exist in the adjacent level-1 trauma center at Ochsner-LSU Health Shreveport, and faculty across our School of Medicine

. Candidates should be comfortable working with other faculty members in the program, school, and institution as well as with advising potential PhD candidates/students in the entry-level SAHP programs.

Qualifications
  • PhD degree with experience in translational research with respect to rehab sciences
  • Evidence of a history of extramural grant funding and success
  • Evidence of a line of scholarship success by record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations
  • Experience in post-graduate and graduate program teaching and dissertation committee service
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in service or leadership in an academic graduate program related to Rehabilitation Sciences

Additional Position Information
Responsibilities: Include administrative service, scholarship, teaching, and student advising.
Administration:
  • Serve as the Chief administrator for the PhD Program in Rehabilitation Sciences
  • Represent the Program at all official functions of the School of Allied Health Professions, LSU Health Sciences Center and LSU University System.
  • Provide oversight of academic and research programs.
  • Collaborate with and direct program faculty in teaching, evaluating student performance, advising and engaging in scholarly work.
  • Coordinate faculty and course parings for each semester
  • Ensure that all graduate studies policies and procedures are administered fairly and correctly and are communicated to students and faculty involved in the program.
  • Chair the academic committee for program admissions and make admission recommendations to the SAHP Dean.
  • Liaise with the SAHP Administration, Registrar, Office of Financial Aid, and Vice Chancellor of Research as needed and routinely.
  • Maintain student records and forward to the appropriate offices as required
  • Ensure graduate students in the program have the necessary resources, facilities, and support for success.
  • Provide input and assistance, as requested, for the School and Institutional accreditation purposes.
  • Coordinate graduate student recruitment activities
Scholarship:
  • Build a foundation for extramural research funding for the SAHP
  • Mentor SAHP faculty and PhD students in grantsmanship
  • Conduct grant-supported research in areas of specialty and mentor PhD students.
  • Participate in technology transfer
  • Supervise student research.
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed literature.
Teaching:
  • Approve a program of study for each PhD student and provide advice regarding changes to a student’s status or program.
  • Appoint a Faculty Advisor or Research Supervisor for each student
  • Assist the student and Faculty Advisor in forming dissertation committees and appointing the chair(s)
  • Coordinate and approve the administration of qualification examinations, proposal defenses, and dissertation defenses.
  • Perform instructional duties in area of expertise.
  • Monitor the research and academic progress of graduate students in the program.
  • Mediate, as needed, in conflicts or disputes between graduate students and research/faculty supervisors
