Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Oncology Case Manager Outpatient Clinic you will be responsible for executing high cost drug authorizations by reviewing the patient’s medical record, discussing the medical criteria with the physician and/or care team, and requesting the authorization/s to the patient’s insurance company. You will work with patients and their families on additional needs outpatient of the inpatient setting (clinic and outpatient) by coordinating efforts between the clinical care team and the patient’s insurance company. What you will do in this role:

  • You will work with the BMC care team to identify high cost drug utilization and requesting the appropriate authorization from the patient’s insurance company
  • You will obtain information from the patient, caregivers, insurance company, benefits administrators as necessary to complete the authorization process
  • You will also work closely with the pharmacy department (Director and Manager of Pharmacy) on drug needs and/or issues
  • You will convey complete and accurate clinical information to payers throughout the patient’s care
  • You will coordinate Peer-to-Peer (P2P) needs with the physician if the drug is initially denied
  • You will utilize payer websites and clinical bulletins to establish documentation needs for the high cost drug (will be utilized in the authorization process)
  • You will communicate pertinent reimbursement information or issues to healthcare team while working the patient’s case
  • You will work closely with the Transplant Finance Department on payer/contract changes, LOAs, SCAs, etc.
  • You will also work closely with the oncology floor clinical teams to coordinate necessary follow-up care

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state(s) of practice according to law and regulation
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in area in which Case Management will be performed.
  • 1+ year of Transplant or Oncology experience working as an RN. Discharge planning experience. Experience working with bone marrow transplants.
