Operation Manager

Essential Functions:
  • Hiring, coaching, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution of exterior services crew members.
  • Long term and daily planning and organization of snow & ice management, landscape maintenance, landscape construction, seasonal color, and special services work.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standardized operating policy, safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversee production and completion of site work within deadline constraints.
  • Measure and maintain high level of production while limiting or reducing operating expenses to increase profitability by tracking manpower and resource allocation.
  • Ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Operations staff development, training, and mentoring to improve employee competency and job satisfaction. Demonstrate a positive role model for others to follow while creating a positive team environment. Influence/mentor others to achieve high level of performance.
  • Investigate work related complaints in order to verify problems and to determine responses and corrective action if necessary.
  • Identify pests/disorders affecting landscaping and provide appropriate remedy.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve and promote quality and apply
  • means/methods to improve performance. Keep up to date on technology and available resources.
  • Oversee the accuracy of employee’s time sheets and daily work logs.
  • Periodically and proactively visit sites to confirm that quality is met.
  • Provide oversight in areas such as proper operation of equipment, horticultural practices, landscape design, and flower design.
  • Monitors progress toward business objectives and adjust business plans as necessary to achieve them.
  • Encourage the open expression of ideas and opinions and values diversity.
  • Oversight of sub-contractors for conformance to standards and development of trust.
  • Works closely with Director of Operations and related support staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assist director as required completing design, estimates and sales.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings. Assist in the annual budget planning process.

Winter Operations Requirement:
  • Function as branch snow coordinator managing all in house and service partners for the branch location. This position includes, but not limited to the following: planning snow events, implement safety compliance with team members, inventory, training and ensuring daily reporting is completed for billing purposes.
  • Function as the Fermi 2 Operations Manager
  • Ensure fleet is properly maintained 24/7 during the winter season.
  • Achieve SIMA ASM certification within 6 months of hire date

Job Requirements/Qualifications
:
  • 4 years of college degree, or a minimum of 7 years’ experience in the green industry/snow and ice management related to large commercial / corporate facilities ground operations and maintenance, with progressive supervisory experience.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of horticultural practices/services,
  • plant/pest identification, industry related equipment, and landscape architecture.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems or Software systems is desired. 360 Facility is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and directly manage projects while meeting time constraints.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., climb ladders, work in hazardous environments, such as construction sites, and work in all types of weather.
  • Must possess current Michigan driver’s license; CDL certification preferred.
